OK, so my 87 Suzuki Savage has a lighting problem. The rear Tail/Brake light and rear blinkers used to light up (even when not braking or using turn signals) anytime the bike was running. Currently, the front blinkers and headlight are on all the time, kind of light "running lights" but the rear lights only light up when I'm braking or using the blinkers. This is going to get me pulled over or rear ended at night! I checked the two fuses I could find under the seat and they are fine.
Any suggestions on what else I can check? The lic plate light is still on btw.

did you check the bulbs?

the rear turns are not running lights

but the tail light is dual function... stop/running

First check the bulb. The brake/tail light bulb has two filaments in it;one for the tail light and one for the brake light. Your tail light filament might be broken. It's an 1157 bulb. Any auto parts place will have one.

My bike is a 2006 and the rear blinkers don't come on unless they are turned on with the turn signal switch. Only the fronts come on when the key is turned on. Are you sure yours were on all the time ?

Thanks! I'll check the bulb. I'm not 100% sure the blinkers were on all the time, but I thought they were because I make a habit of checking all lights before I ride.
I'll check that brake light bulb and see what happens!

If it ain't the bulb... check at the ignition switch...
The tail light gets it's power from a different tap in the ignition connector...
It may have a bad contact there...

Sure enough! It was the bulb. And you were right, the front turn signals work as running lights but the rear signals do not. (Confirmed by a guy that rides with me).
Everything back to normal! Now I'm gonna go for a ride. Thanks everyone!
