Title: Stator Cover Gasket Thickness Tolerance Conflicts Post by mjs3790225 on 08/30/13 at 08:07:05 Hey all, I was hoping somebody might know how critical the additional gasket thickness is on the stator cover. My old gasket was destroyed, so instead of buying a new one, I just ran RTV around the stator case. It's not leaking or anything from what I can tell which is great, but it is considerably thinner than the real formed gasket. I know there are things that move around in there when the starter turns on, and I just want to make sure I don't bind something without knowing it because it can't move out whatever extra fraction of a millimeter is gone. I did make sure to put the infamous washer back on the right rod. Is anyone running a strictly RTV gasket on this side to full, non-catastrophic success? :-? |
