OK this is my first post to the forum. Yesterday I was coming home on the interstate going around 70mph or 75mph my bike lost power to the rear (like i pull the clutch in) so I pulled over to shoulder and noticed the engine still running pull the clutch in, drop it in 1st and nothing. So I shut the bike off and start it back up after waiting 5mins and the bike ran fine to the next exit so I can get home on local roads. Got home checked oil it was little low (will that make my clutch slip and loss power to the rear?) Checked the adjustment to the clutch leaver (adjustment was slightly on the slack side) does anybody have any idea's what's going on with the bike I'm kinda scared to take it on the interstate till I find out what's wrong. Here's some info that might help

That's a weird one... especially for such a new bike...

Check that your clutch cable is working smoothly,.. and not kinked in it's routing... (have you done any work on the bike recently?...
Also,.. check the front belt pulley nut...

Mostly,.. just giving a bump to this post, to fish for more replies... :-?...

I agree with Serow on checking your clutch cable. Good on you that you checked your cable adjustment. When you say you dropped it in to first and nothing, do you mean the bike stalled? Did the engine rev but not supply power to the rear wheel? Could you not duplicate the problem?

When was the last oil change? What did you use? What is the most recent maintenance that has been done to the bike?

Serowbot-The last service was a oil change(Suzuki 4 cycle motorcycle engine oil 10w40) with filter, adjust clutch cable and lube, and replaced spark plug. The clutch cable moves free and no kinks.
Hondalavis-When I say drop in first and nothing meaning engine still running (no stalling) engage clutch in first and it's like neutral.

EEEWW... What's the chance that you shifted into a false neutral in stead of first? Wouldn't be the first time. If it is a clutch or transmission problem, you should be able to duplicate it. Might try going on a test ride and see if it happens again. Take caution, of course.

Yes I'm new to riding and this is my first bike but I don't think it was a false neutral cause I was going 70-75mph when I lost power held in the clutch pull to the shoulder engine still running and still in 5th gear then geared down to neutral light lit up then geared down into first ease off the clutch and felt no movement tried 2 times before I hit the kill switch took the key out checked oil and clutch cable on the shoulder of the interstate after a quick walk around check I restarted the bike and it ran fine got it into all the gears and got off the interstate(like nothing happen) and took local roads home to do a good walk around

OK it's been a couple of days now and I can't mimic what happen the other day with my bike. Would you think low oil could have made my clutch slip? (It was low about half a quart) Since when I shut the bike off on the side of the interstate the oil drains back down to the sump.

Nope,.. low oil will destroy your engine, but it won't make yer' clutch slip...
...(don't worry, it probably didn't get that low)... :-/...

I think you dropped into a false neutral... thet can happen with most bikes..
Just keep riding,... be safe,.. and remember to check yer' oil... ;)...

Curious. But you might consider a theory I have had for some time now. I firmly believe machines are female and, therefore, sometime just do sh*t for no reason at all. I will now run for cover before the distaff members of the forum gut me like a catfish.
