Title: The Wife Did 233 Miles on her S40 Today
Post by Nailz on 08/25/13 at 17:48:19

My wife and I went for a ride up to Helen, GA.  It's about 120 miles away from the house.  I just did a valve adjustment on her scooter and I thought it was time to check out how well I did.

We went the 2-lane road route up to Helen which took 4 hours.  A great way to check my work.  The bike ran great and got 100 miles and took 1.5 gallons to fill.

I have done a jet kit from Lancer, a raptor petcock, a Dyna muffler, and other little tweaks.  The bike runs like a Stallion!

There were lot's of 25MPH turns and lots of switchbacks, and she rode great!  I am so proud of her.

I gotta'throw a pic of Fat Albert out too!

I love horses too.  They are popular for the visitors wanting to take a slow ride and look around the town,

The tubbers were out in full force.  Looks like fun to me.

Great pics Nail. Congrats on the boss lady riding her own too! I gotta ask...is Helen some sort of theme park or what? looks like something you'd see in the Alps.

Helen is a german/Swedish type tourist trap, but very fun to visit. The have a bike rally in sept/oct time frame and have a hell of a octoberfest! It has tons of little shops to visit and a little creek to ride down in inner tubes, a real family oriented get-a-way. The wife and I have gone up there twice in the last four years on the way to the dragon and back from florida, its a nice stop and good folks, actually met one hotel manager from my hometown of Quincy, Illinois! cut me a deal on a room and we kicked back and drank a few brews sitting at a picnic table next to a babblin' brook....good times :)

That's cool, Leavenworth WA with no snow... are there still any Germans there, or is it like Leavenworth, with Pakis/Mexicans/Chinese in lederhosen... All the Leavenworth Germans bailed and retired to Mexico when the "Von Crap" family from the "Sound of Mucus" movie fame moved to the town.  >:(

100 miles.....1.2 gallons to fill?

That is 83 mpg!  That has to be some kind of record for a Savage!

You are not far from where my daughter lives.  Her and her husband are both in the Marines and living in Bonaire.
They both ride too. They are a Beemer family.  She has an '83 750 triple and he has a '78 650 air head.  I could be off a bit on the model years slightly but those are the bikes.  I rode her triple to the Dragon ride one year.

It is pretty much a destination ride.  You get to go through some nice mountains and really great scenery.  It is a tourist town.  I would bet most of the people are local Georgian's who live near by.  It is a great ride.

Factory bars, no shield, stock jetting, different exhaust routinely netted mid-70s on mine  commuting, 35 and 45 mph roads. Best it ever got was mid-80s, longer ride at freeway speeds to blow out the carbon and then more country 2 lanes.

With the current bars and jetting netting a whopping 36 mpg... it has been parked and dismantled for over 2.5 years.

We ALWAYS   ;D ride the posted speed limits since she is new to riding.  I asked her if she ever "twisted the loud handle" and she said no.  She said the bike has lots of power and I only need to give it a little gas to get up to speed!!!  There is your MPG How-to!!!  ;)

As for drafting... She rides a bit ways back from me since a lot of our roads are pot hole filled and I point them out with my boots.  I would guess the bike has barely seen the new main jet, but it runs great!
