Title: Android GPS route mapper.
Post by Toroso on 08/25/13 at 06:15:04

I'm looking for an Android app that will allow me to map out a route I want to follow on the bike and have it guide me so I don't have to memorize turns etc. Most just seem to want a destination and pick the route for me.

I had no luck finding such a beast. I am hoping someone here knows of one.

Google maps?
A lot of new android phones - the Samsung Galaxy's starting with the S2, already have it installed and working. My daughters Galaxy S2 has guided us with turn by turn instructions.

For use on a motorcycle I would think you would want a blue tooth headset and listen to the instructions that way.

I haven't used an Android app as yet, but my Garmin GPS has the same quirk. What works best is to set a final destination and let it do its trick. Then use the "Where do you want to go" by whatever name it is called, and add a destination somewhere mid-route. It will ask whether you want that to be a new final destination or a "via point." Tell it "via point" and it will recalculate from your origin to the "via point" and then from the "via point" to the final destination. You can add several "via points" to the route.

Can you plot a course? Or just a destination point?

Of course I thought about this today while out riding. Just go wherever the wind blows and when ready to head home, whip out the phone and tell GPS to take me home. I use ear buds and the little do hickey that tightens up the Y cord has finally become useful.  :)

I know on the PC I can click and drag to change Google maps to what ever route I want, but I have yet to try it with my Android phone.  :-?

If you put in a destination, then it will show you the route there and then guide you step by step. If you don't follow a step, it recalculates the route.

I have not tried to just alter a proprosed route
