Title: plug socket woes
Post by cafecarl on 08/24/13 at 06:04:28

The tool kit for my '86 was long gone before I bought the thing out of a storage container. I'm having trouble finding a plug wrench that fits the contour of the head cover (not one of the better Savage features). My friend's bike has the kit and the cheap but effective socket works great. Anyone know of a good aftermarket replacement?

Don't know if this will help you, but for my bike (see my signature block), I just use a standard 3/8" drive deep-well 18mm socket.

IHTH!

Thanks Digger, that'll save me some trial and error at the tool mart.

18mm here too! If you're having the annoying problem of having to get around that chrome cover thing and the tank is in the way, you can mod the chrome cover by cutting a slit in one of the bolt mount holes and create a sort of swing out hinge effect for easy access. There is a good post around here somewhere about it.

I've seen wrenches like it, but not exactly where.
lawnmower shops?
Aces?

Also, our tool kit aint that special.
any bike of the same year is going to have a similar kit.

pretty close to what you need
