Title: Relocating voltage regulator
Post by gizzo on 08/21/13 at 02:29:13

I've moved the regulator from under the pillion seat on the back guard and put it in the space where the toolkit goes, lid off. Anyone know whether it's ok to run it like that with the toolbox lid on, or will the reg need better airflow? I'm thinking maybe not, seeing it was crammed under the seat before but thought I'd ask if anyone knows better?

Even though it was crammed under the seat - the fender acted as a big radiator and heat sink to pull the heat away.  You need to keep the rectifier cool somehow....either airflow or bolting it to something like the fender that is metal and will carry the heat away.

The rectifier on our bike is reported to just burn away excess power, and it makes heat in the process.

A common spot to put it is in the air box (if you are running stock air filter).

The silly little shelf where California models have a vapor recovery canister works well as a v.r. mount...
