Not running right now.  The bike is in Non-Op status currently, no engine.  I'm working on transferring a 96 Savage engine into the 88. .

MMm kay,, Im not the authority on that, BUT, I do think you may be in for some wiring issues & you may need something else, but dang if I can say what it is..

Noted, but not sure what wiring issues I could face, I'm only using the engine from the 96.

Anyone have experience or knowledge on this?

The '96 will plug into the '88 frame just fine.
The issue you will face is it'll run crappy off idle.
There is a difference in the timing sensor.
What you'll need to do is either swap the CDI or the rotor.
The '88 rotor goes with the '88 CDI and vice versa.
If you opt for the '96 CDI, the connector is different on the '88 harness.
To swap the rotor you need a special puller.

Wow, thanks for the insight and link.  I guess I need to start looking for a 96 CDI, since the fly wheel puller is not cheap.

Again, thank for the tips.

Update, I was mistaken, just got notice that the engine is from a 2001, i'm assuming that I have the same issue.

Yep, match the igniter/mystery box to the engine.

I jsut ordered one of those pullers.  $76 from Bike Bandit.  Everybody else $100 and up.
