Wait, hold the phone... did you paint this yourself?

I literally just got home from buying my S40 (first bike, and I'm super excited about it.)  It was the right price but the wrong color.  It's the 2009 candy red which really is closer to lipstick pink than red.  Not the manliest color I could imagine so I was thinking of painting it.

I would LOVE to know how your experience was and any good links or tips you could point me to as I start planning my pain project.

If you did do that yourself, congrats.  It looks awesome.

A lady member joined recently, who claimed to be an expert paint person. Yes Suzuki definetley did the candy cream one to appeal to the female market .

By the way, if anyone knows someone in the Denver area that can do a paint job for less than the value of the bike (which is what I've been getting estimates for), please let me know.

I might do it myself but the last thing I spray painted wasn't something I'd be proud to show off.  Unless drips and missing patches are coming into style, I'm no good at it.  :)

You just need practice. Stop in a body shop, ask for some sheet metal to practice on, A bent fender, hunk O hood, meeeh,, dont matter. Go home, prep it, rattle can it, Go slow, dont try to cover it all in one spray session. Its okay, better off with several thin coats than one serious mugging with paint.,

That is a CLEAN bike!  The best part:  no after-farts!

What muffler is that?

Not to hijack your thread with off topic stuff... but which fork boots did you install?  They look really nice.

Wow, nice job!  but how does that fender not rub the rear? i'd like to set one up similar, to decrease the overall weight

The fender is mounted to the swingarm & moves up & down with the tire, so the gap never changes,

Hi ppl thanks for all the great comments, as for the paint, the colours are just normal spray cans from an auto shop black and gold but the top clear coat is 2k from a can !! yup, you can get it in a can BUT beware there are cans marked 2k that are NOT, the right cans have a button in the bottom to allow you to break a seal inside so the hardener can mix in.
All was done with spray cans, the 2k was from ebay, as was most parts for the bike.
the gaitors were from ebay, i just measured the fork leg and searched untill i found some the right size, i have no idea what they came off, sorry
regards
Dave

Oh sorry forgot the muffler, it was a cheap one, again from ebay just a generic shorty turnout

What do the springs on the front forks do?

Why is the fuel filter on the right side?

Why do you blip the throttle when you slow down in turns?  Is there a problem with it idling in turns, or does it load up (foul the plug)?  Do you need to do that to downshift?  Just wondering,...

How did the additional weight (sprung weight) on the swingarm from the fender and taillight, etc., affect the rear suspension action?

Eastwood has the two-part clear coat in a can.  Item #14148 Z

For a few bucks more you can get the same stuff made in the UK called Spray Max 2k from several sources,.. Amazon, ebay, etc.

wow !! questions, yes i did use spray max 2k.

the springs dont do anything just for looks

the fuel filter, long story, lol, is on the right because i had a copy yamaha raptor and the gasket broke inside and leaked fuel (thats why it got repainted) and i could'nt get a repair kit that fitted OR a new raptor tap so i used a intruder chrome tap that has the outlet 90deg pointing across the engine hence the fuel line comes round, makes it easier to use a fuel filter tho lol

As for the added unsprung weight on the rear swing arm, its not much weight, i cant say ive noticed much different, its a lot lighter now without all that rear so i just let the shocks off one notch to compensate

OH and the bliping throttle thing, its just a habit from drag racing days when indeed the motor did run rich at idle, but the bike runs fine, it doesnt foul up or have any running issues now ive rejetted and done a few little mods.
didnt realise id even did it lol
Regards
Dave

Wow.  You answered all my questions.  Not only that, you didn't interpret any of them as personal attacks.  Not only that, they were direct answers to direct questions.

Refreshing.
