Title: Rear footpegs install
Post by sesamestreet on 08/14/13 at 09:10:20

Hey so I just picked these footpegs up http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=35019257922
Apparently they're direct fit. I'm just wondering how do I install these without removing the rear wheel? Left one can go on easy but there isn't enough clearance to get the bolt into the hole for the right one. Any sugtestions?

loosen the axle and adjusters and kick it to the opposite side.

I think I would rather leave the adjusters alone and pull the axle.

So it's easier to just remove the wheel? How do I do that?

When the garage showed me how to remove the rear wheel, they drove the axle out without playing with the adjusters. It took some hammer time to get it back in. No biggie but thought you should know it won't just fall out and in.

Ok well it doesn't look like it slides out the back because of the adjusters right? So how does it come off?

raise tire off ground using floor jack
remove axle nut using wrench
push axle thru hole until a ringing sound is heard.
push on the threaded end.

Dont booger up the threads, put the nut on to get it started. let the nut cover the threads, once it hits the swingarm, use a punch & stay away from the edge.

Hmm ok do I have to remove the belt wheel? Or is that coming off with the wheel?

YOu have the axle out? If not, get the axle out.

once the axle is out, roll the wheel forward and slip the belt off. The pulley and quite possibly the rubber insulators/isolators will fall out of the wheel and smash your toes or fingers. It weighs as much as the rest of the hub/hoop/spokes/tire combo once the brake plate falls out and smashes your other toes.

Oh, the brake plate fits around a tab on the swingarm, pull back to free the brake plate from the tab, then let the plate rotate down before trying to push the wheel forward. If you forgot to unhook the brake stay and brake rod, do so now...  ::)

Major leaguer pain in the butt. Ask Pine, he was up here a couple weeks ago. Wonder if he ever got his rear brake dialed back in all the way, it takes awhile to find the sweet spot on reassembly, and every bike is different, every time the cable is removed.

I think once the axle is out and I'm able to roll the wheel forward giving me room to drop the bolt in in, I can reassemble right after that.
