Title: Squeaky noise on or around the belt?
Post by Afan on 08/05/13 at 21:50:27

If somebody can "recognize" the issue. When in third gear and up there is squeaky noise on or around the belt. In first or second gear - no noise.
Also, even in 3rd or 4th, if I squeeze the clutch the noise disappears.

Any idea what it could be? :(

I'm assuming the same, but I was looking for a hint WHY it's squeaking? And how to fix it? ;)

Also, there is no wear and tear signs on the belt. Looks like a new one.

;D ;D ;D...
It's a straight cut edge belt, running against two straight edge pulleys...
That creates friction,.. that creates heat,.. that creates glazing...
You can butter that belt with anything to smooth that friction... and it will quiet for a while...
... or... grind an angled edge onto the belt... that, will stop the two surfaces from rubbing...

I used an angle grinder...(my favorite tool)...
Just don't slip...(but you knew that already)...
;D ;D ;D...
:-?...

I'll try first to "butter" the belt, to be sure that's the case...
And by "butter" you meant...? Cisco, Olive Extra Virgin? :D

Send any extra virgin's my way...  :-*...
Some people have sworn by beeswax... (something heavier than 3 n' 1',.. but not so tacky as chain lube)....(candle wax didn't work too bad)...

If an angle grinder sounds excessive,.. try a strong grit sandpaper to fuzz the belt edges... that'll help 'till they burn off...
Basically,... this belt is industrial tough, and wider than the belt on a Harley full dresser... you can take half of it away, and it's heavy duty...
I'm not saying to grind half of it off... just that a little softening of the edges won't do no harm...

I put about an 80' degree bevel into mine... from the stock 90'...

I had good results from Gulf canning wax. Its close to the canning jars at the store, costs about nothing .
