Title: Belt gets tighter while driving?
Post by RobSchneider on 08/01/13 at 04:28:00

I have adjust the tension like described in the tech-section, and the belt was nicely tightened, but when I drove it (just a couple of KM, like 3 or 4) it starts to squeek again, and when I checked it was back to really tight again...
Anybody has any clue why the belt is tightening itself while driving such a short period? I'm afraid that it will snap if I go a few KMs further next time!!!

well, it's natural! due to the fact that the axis swing back the pendulum suspension does not coincide with the axis of the driving pulley happens belt tension at the greater weight loading or when driving on rough roads...(although perhaps the us is not Russia a bitter smile). therefore most likely not worth it to pull the drive belt.. and squeaking, it could be that the drive belt is not in the middle of the pulleys....

Absolutely makes no sense. Does it get slack if it sits a while? How much slac is in it? The only way it can get tighter is for something to get on the pulleys, make sure thyre clean all the way around & nothing is stuck in the belt,

Are you sure it ain't just getting tighter at the top and looser at the bottom?...
If it's really changing tension,... yer' rear axle ain't tight... :o...

This may sound a bit weird....but I wonder if the belt tightens as it warms up under use?   I have never checked the tension after my ride starts.....only before I ride.

If pulleys get that hot, to swell up & tighten the belt,, seems wrong.

Belt gets hot, otta not shrink.

Axle not tite? Seems unlikely it would tighten the belt, loosen, yea,, I can see that,

Roll it & see if tension changes. Check it every 6 or so inches of roll.

As the oil in your shocks gets warm your dampning may shift a bit, and perhaps your springs let your butt settle the bike a little lower.

I know as you rotate the swing arm things get tighter ...

My belt gets tighter around thanksgiving / Christmas.

(I kept waiting for JOG to say it,  but he has to be all serious and helpful and stuff)
:)
