Title: Double Idle Speed
Post by wolf391 on 07/30/13 at 12:31:14

Have a question that I hope will have a simple answer.  :o

My bike is a 87 Ls650 and will idle at what sounds like the proper RPM (I don't have a TAC so I don't know for sure). However at times the idle will drop  down to a HD type - thump thump thump. I have no idea what is causing this. Anyone know what is going on and what I can do to  get rid of the problem ? Thanks for your help.

betcha you got an intake leak that seals itself every once in a while.

Next time, take a can start spray and spray around the carb. If it changes you have a leak.

WD40 is a lot safer to use than ether when leak checking... especially if the cylinder is already warmed up.

I think I remember reading a while back that propane was no longer used as the propellant in spray cans of WD-40.

If this is true, does WD-40 still work in tracking down intake leaks?

Yes, used it last week.
but instead of vroom vroom, it goes sputter sputter
was able to detect a minor leak in the oring of the throttle butterfly shaft.
