Long story short I need to take off the oil filter cover, i believe its leaking and want to replace the ring. I just filled the oil and dont want to drain the engine again.

Anyone know if I can tip it on its side and take it off or will it still leak?

Sometimes, trying to save trouble, is more trouble than it's worth... ;D...

One bolt, and a pan... replace yer' ring,...  then, pour it back in...

Oil level is under the filter so the spill is not much.

ya know,, he makes a good point.. the only oil in the filter is minimal. its gonna make a mess, but not gonna empty the sump, no oil will leave the sump, will it?   i cant see how.

you only loose what's in the filter.
drape some aluminum foil over the muffler and bombs away.
