For the past 2 years I've been riding around with no muffler and a basically stock bike with a cone air filter and some jetting work done. Its ran great but the top speed is like 75 with not much difference between 4th n 5th. This weekend I'm installing a 38mm mikuni vm carb with a UFO, a dial a jet, raptor Petcock, and some other cosmetic stuff. Does the savage community have any recomendations for me while I have this thing torn apart? Also I was thinking about making the exhaust longer or maybe putting on a muffler to get a higher top speed.

If you want any kind of decent performance, then YES, you need a muffler. Otherwise You'll suffer from a phenomenon known as drag pipe sag.

As anyone else will tell you, get a dyna muffler. I used a Screamin' Eagle. It's fairly quiet at idle, but really opens up when you WHACK on it. ;)

I have a Supertrapp, Its Super, but, they trapped a load o my cash when I bought it. I coulda had at least 90% of the performance boost & had a prettier muffler & saved enough to put 3 rear tires on if I woulda gone with the Dyna,, & it wulda sounded every bit as sweet,,,
I know I sag when I drag my pipe,, I just hate it when that happens

..(I may add it to my muffler thread in the Tech Section)... ;)...

Thank you for posting that video it was very informative and has persuaded me to hook up a muffler.
