Title: New guy from KCMO
Post by toddsls650 on 07/24/13 at 05:04:48

Hi! My name is Scott. My brother just bought a 95 ls650 with about 14000 miles, I'm the mechanical one so it will be my responsibilty to keep it on the road. He has always liked what I've done to all of my bikes so he has givin me artistic freedom to do to his bike anything I want. I am really liking the bobber look so I think we'll go that route. I am currently on a 2012 Fatboy that I've done alot of custom work to and have taken it about as far as I can so I'm looking forward to this project, especially since the money is coming out of his pocket. I do still have the stock exhaust off of the fatboy to use on the 650. I've been looking around this site and see alot of nice rides and awesome tips and tricks, glad to be here.

Well,, its just exactly cam chain checking time @ 14,000 miles. Hopefully its just been done,, If not & the tensioner spits its guts out, itll most likely torpedo the motor. Good News, huhh? Sorry,, & Welcome.

Good news is that it's an easy and relatively inexpensive fix.
Verslagen makes a modified tensioner that solves that problem.
Welcome to the Savage world dude !

Hay Todd welcome to the Savage comunity !

You doin't half to drain the oil if ya doin't need too.   Just lay it over on the  left side , remove the right foot peg and exaust system , then pop the side cover off.   Watch out for the Clutch cable hook when you put the side-cover back on ... gravity will make it go in the wrong direction !  ::)  .       I've used form a gasket ultra gray instead of a fiber gasket with never a leak !  :)

I recall there being a reason that the actual gasket was necessary, I will defer to the experts on the forum for a more in depth explanation.

Top of the case oil passage can not be blocked. If you are careful, gray gunk is more than suitable.
