Title: Rear fender
Post by Toroso on 07/19/13 at 11:51:55

Are there any major differences in the rear fender through the years?

Same basic part. Suggest you swap it with a 1400 Intruder fender that came with the under tail mounted brake light.

Hmm interesting idea. Someone here removed the passenger seat and smoothed the fender out. I was thinking of doing that and wondered if just any year fender would work since prices vary widely on eBay.

They'll interchange at will. Watch for twisted fenders, unfortunately 10x more common than a straight fender. The frames tend to have the left rail a tad bit high than the right, and the plate mount weight coupled with the bike's vibration twists the fender. Usually to the right. Suzuki quality control is, um, spotty where the Savage/S40 production lines is concerned.

Something like this is what I would like to end up with.

Would the Intruder fender require a lot of modification?

Yep, start with a Savage fender.
