Everything on my right control switch is working fine except for the brake light switch. Has anyone tried repairing one without replacing the entire control?

I don't have any resistance between the correct wires at the 6-prong connecter.

The brake light switch is just screwed onto the brake master cylinder. Have you tried taking the switch off the master cylinder and testing it? If you connect the two wires at the Master Cylinder the brake light should come on.

If it is the brake switch, you can take it off and replace it. You might find a cheaper used one on eBay....or the factory one as listed below:

Is there any difference in years for the right control switch? I have an 87 with the 6 prong connecter. Are all years the same?

I've seen some on Ebay that look like they have a different connector. Maybe an 8 or 10 prong? I don't want to get one that won't work, then switch out all the other wiring.

Unless the big section is broken, all you need to do is unplug the brake light switch, pull 1 screw, and swap in a new switch. You don't need to swap the entire switch box to change a $5 piece of plastic. Especially since the part that fails in under the master cylinder perch.

I've probably still got the front brake switch from mine. I deleted all the handlebar electrical mess, box ought to be on the shelf... still on the bike, moves fine. I'll try and get it pulled.

I think my wiring is bad running through the control switch wire bundle. I resoldered the connection to the switch, but still no continuity at the plug.

Youve checked Ohms from exposed wire to other side of that switch part?
the left solder connection doesnlt look extra sexy,.

None of it looks extra sexy.

I have a short in the wire bundle. Had my girlfriend hold the lever down and started wiggling the wire like I had something to prove. Brake light started flickering! So I think I just need to get a new control switch for the wires. I'd rather not replace any wiring myself. You can see how good I am at soldering!

Also, mine has a slider in it that slides over two metal pieces connected to the wires. It's not an actual switch like my clutch lever switch. Is this original, or a previous Owner's doing? The slider looks pretty worn as well. It may not bee sliding properly in the housing.

If you think its the switch, short across those wires.. if the bulb comes on, no flickering, then yes,,

I believe that 2004 was the year the emergency flasher was added to the right control - so if you want a complete control and wring harness you need to get a 2003 or earlier if you want the 6 pin connector. Here is the link that confirms the emergency flasher and passing light were added on the bike in 2004.

It sounds like you need to buy a proper brake light switch and screw for sure. Then you need to decide if you are going to buy a used or new right control and harness.....or.......are you going to open up your wiring harness and look for the the broken wire? From the looks of the fading on the red button......your bike has been exposed to the elements for a while and you might be better off to get a control and harness that are in better condition. There are several people parting out bikes in the Marketplace on this forum that may have what you need.

It doesn't sound like you have the stock brake light switch on your bike, it should look like this:

I got my front brake light switch today and attempted the swap. Bad news- the slider thing is stock on my '87. It has this weird little housing thing that it sits up in on the underneath side of the master cylinder/brake lever. So, the switch pictured above will not attach. Does anyone know what year Suzuki started making the new style switch?

Also, even if I could attach it, there is no way for the lever to actuate it. My stock lever doesn't have a push piece on it that would push the switch like the clutch lever does. Either I need to find an old stock part (doubtful) or get a new master cylinder and brake lever. This is getting more and more expensive every week!

Turns out this part is in my Clymer manual, I just didn't see it.
