Title: gasket seal?
Post by ajhoff83 on 07/13/13 at 05:22:31

So im replacing the clutch cover gasket, do I need sealant?

It seems like most things I read on other sites say no, or at the most use some wheel bearing grease to hold it in place while you put it back together.

Any thoughts?

No sealer, hot oil makes the gasket swell, which makes it work. A light wipe of grease on the outer case edge to make the gasket "hold" until the bolts are all started is sufficient.

I use gray Permatex. No paper gasket needed, but, if it is even the slightest bit too thick, it will cut oil flow to the top end. If you go that route, use a finger tip to spread it paper thin, let it set up for an hour or two, and then install. It will still "smush out" to fill any irregularities, but not send gunk where it doesn't belong.
