Title: how can I tell
Post by rl153 on 07/09/13 at 14:12:25

How can I tell if I have gas mixed in my oil? I just changed my petcock to a raptor, and there didn't seem to be gas in the vac line. I always kept the stock petcock on run ,not prime. But the bike used to stall once in a while ,but would start right back up.it doesn't stall  any more . Would the oil level be significantly higher if there was gas leaking in there . I opened the oil filler cap, and it didn't smell like gas.I don't want to change it for no reason. Thanks!

If the volume hasn't increased, and it doesn't smell like gas....it is fine.

If you have a smidge in the oil it will cook off as you ride.  The problem with gas in the oil was not caused when a bike was running, but when the bike was stationary and the fuel leaked past the diaprhagm and down the vacuum hose and into the intake manifold.  If you had a small leak through the diaphragm while the bike was running....it would not have contaminated the oil.

If the level didn't go up, you probably don't have gas in there. You can always take some out and see if it burns easily. I didn't have gas in my oil when I changed my petcock.

or, if youre worried, dump the oil, keep the filter, toss fresh in, you spent
less than $7.00..
