I have a 2007 S40 with the stock (I think) drag bars. I also have short arms, even for a 5'2" person, so I'm looking for handlebars that will bring the bar/controls back toward me an inch or two. Right now, I barely have a bend in my elbows and that gets tiring on a 300+ mile day!

There are a zillion handlebars out there so I'm looking for suggestions. Also, are the bars on the S40 1 inch? I see a lot of 1-1/4 inch bars out there. TIA!

Yes, the bars are 1" diameter.

If you just change bars to get them closer to you....the problem is the angle change your wrists will have to make if you keep the bars narrow like you have. If you use the existing mounts and risers it will be hard to get a bar that moves you back any - uness they have more bend and are wider.

You may be able to get a riser that has more of a bend and allows the existing bars to move back.

Thanks Dave, that's a great point. I do like the height and angles of my current setup. Are there risers that have a longer bend? Would I be looking for 1" diameter risers too?

A set of dog bone risers and a cross tube may be the solution.

Oops. Forgot picture. They give infinite adjustability. Just get a short set and lean them back towards you.

Oh wow- so the cross tube would go where my handlebars are right now, and the dog bone would attach my current handlebars to the cross tube? Do you have a brand that you recommend?

Just look online, they are pretty common these days.

Don't see something you like, check the manufacturers that advertise in The Horse magazine.

Be ready for sticker shock, you're looking at $120USD and up for new in most cases.

Another option, call the parts counter at Bent Bike in Auburn WA, they'll probably just tell you to come look, ask for Tony, tell him they used to be in the battery aisle region. Been a few years since I worked there...

I bought a set of these, the 2" and I LOVE THEM. They let you adjust the risers and then adjust the handle bars. By only going 2", there is no need to worry about needing longer cables. I have them set at about 60 degrees... so more up than back.. but they still come back some. You could rake them back more and up less to suit you.

Thanks so much- the pivoting risers might just be the winner. My boyfriend is also looking to move his handlebars up and back a smidge, so he might need a set too. Appreciate your help!!
