Title: Headlight Post by savagebob on 07/01/13 at 14:07:13 Is there any sort of aftermarket or replacement headlight which is well suited to the savage? I have one I was going to use but it doesn't have any adjustments for angle and it's also bottom mount and doesn't look like it's going to mount easily. Just wondered if there way anything people are aware of which mounts up easily as an improvement? |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by Gyrobob on 07/01/13 at 16:59:41 Use the stock headlight shell and reflector, with an HID unit installed. Three times the brightness with half the electrical load, eh? I threw in the "eh" because today is Canada day in the US. edited 4 July: Don't do this. It's illegal because it makes WAY too much glare. If you want HID, get the whole headlight as a DOT-approved unit. LED headlights are an option now too. |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by savagebob on 07/01/13 at 19:49:39 Dont really fancy drilling a bit hole in the tree.. I'd probably ruin it somehow. I could probably whip up a bracket like this tho aye (we say aye in NZ not eh like Canada) http://s23.postimg.org/n571w7gjf/bracket.jpg |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by WD on 07/01/13 at 21:09:06 That'll do the job. But you'd be 1000x happier with a traditional sidemount headlight, they can be rough aimed tighter than most bottom mounts will fine adjust. I run a 7" Bates/Lucas replica sidemount. My Savage will never run a bottom mount again. Looks better, is high mounted, works better, allows room under the headlight shell for a proper tool roll which completely hides the ugly as a shaved dog's butt lower triple tree... oh, and will accept Triumph/Honda front signals to get rid of the less than aesthetically pleasing stock units (my bike is a 1998, really ugly/oversized signals). |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by WD on 07/01/13 at 22:22:22 Correct... Like so:http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y490/mphsgal/LISA-HP/Photos/Savage/pokeydone1_zps4f01ca6c.jpg Pic is a few years/incarnations old... haven't lived in that state in 2+ years. |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by WD on 07/02/13 at 19:22:24 If you want them too and the slot in the back of the bucket is large enough. Mine do not, harness is midway through a massive reroute, shorten, control box delete. Which reminds me, I need to order some asphalt wire looming and some braided wire... |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by RobSchneider on 07/03/13 at 03:34:13 I drilled a hole as well, works fine. You can also use a bracket, maybe custom made? |

A 1953-1959 English Ford Anglia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Anglia).[/quote] Close Paladin, it's actually a 1954 Squire. 2 door 4 seater that came stock with an 8 horsepower 4 cylinder. The green one in the pic ran a 1974 (one year only) Datsun 210 1.4L engine block and 4 speed transmission, with a head off a later model 1.2L engine for a compression bump. Powertrain courtesy of a Hollywood studio lot garage, it was an old prop car my stepson found on a used lot in WA. Supposed to have been a background car in the 2nd Austin Powers movie when the car was still tan or light blue. Never watched the movie, can't confirm or deny its presence. Stepson still had the car out in WA when Lisa and I moved back to TN. He's since moved back to MS, no idea what he did with the car (probably gave it away, it was a heap). |

Title: Re: Headlight Post by strang on 07/03/13 at 15:50:31 I been trying to swap out my headlight this week as the stock one is starting to split. Plastic backing Suzuki? shame on you. Anyway to save someone greif - those chrome universal headlight brackets didn't fit the 38mm forks at all and are designed for slimmer forks me thinks. I'm actually gonna go back to a bottom mount cause I eventually found some side mount brackets and well... sorry but it looked wrong to me. I am thinking of messin with this bracket: http://edmundson-electrical.voltilink.co.uk/catalogue.jsp?product_id=SB515&brand=LEU&mode=details&catalogType=P will have to come up with something for getting an angle going on though. This one's got me salivating: http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l432/mike_odonovan/555951e4-554f-42de-9db4-3f452f9f0163.jpg (http://s330.photobucket.com/user/mike_odonovan/media/555951e4-554f-42de-9db4-3f452f9f0163.jpg.html) |
Title: Re: Headlight Post by strang on 07/03/13 at 16:10:19 actually found this on another forum just now. basically the bigger hole is from the bottom mount of new headlight and it hangs over the front edge of the bottom tree so that the bolt going through is clear. Then you just bolt the back two holes onto the stock mount area. http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l432/mike_odonovan/f5d0763e-fdf3-4123-829a-8fa177f80e35.jpg (http://s330.photobucket.com/user/mike_odonovan/media/f5d0763e-fdf3-4123-829a-8fa177f80e35.jpg.html) Clever. Title: Re: Headlight Post by Dave on 07/05/13 at 05:36:51 Here is a rather fancy and expensive adapter for the headlight mount. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HM2-Headlight-MOUNT-Suzuki-S40-M50-B95-Boulevard-VZ800-VZ1600-Marauder-800-1600-/120849379940?hash=item1c232f3264&vxp=mtr#ht_3895wt_917 I wonder if this kind of adapter doesn't push the headlight out front too far? An adapter could be made out of an aluminum block that would have a stud mounted much closer to the existing holes, and just a bit taller. |
Title: Re: Headlight Post by Greg on 07/05/13 at 06:02:17 Question about side mount and fork brackets. How do they mount straight if the headlight is wider or narrower? Do we need a specific diameter bucket or specific bracket? |
Title: Re: Headlight Post by WD on 07/05/13 at 07:40:50 Let me find my camera. My sidemount brackets will work on 33-39mm fork tubes based on the mounting slot chosen, and I set them as wide as possible and used aluminum spacers for the 7" bucket... Emgo brackets and Emgo bucket. |

Precisely: First mount, re-mount: http://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/7inch-headlight.jpghttp://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/headlight2.jpg That flat mount will have the headlight poking out forward, same as my first attempt. I held the light and eyeballed where I wanted it placed, and made an adapter to mount it correctly. |
Title: Re: Headlight Post by strang on 07/05/13 at 15:26:45 I used a 7 inch headlight and there was quite a gap to be made up to fit the fork mounted brackets. I gave up on this route but if you want to go down this road I'd go for the largest headlight you can get and as has been stated, maybe look at a couple of spacers to take up the slack. Our forks are quite wide. ;D |
