Will a softail muffler part#FXS 1450 work on a 1997 Savage!?? I'm running a straight pie!!! Thanks for your input

Yes, it'll work. you may need some adaptors and some bending here and there,.. maybe a little extra bracketry.
-- Once you get the straight pie out of the way, and put the softail muffler in the correct position, you'll be able to see if it'll bolt up easily, or if you'll be having to do some fabrication, bending, cutting, welding, etc.
-- These projects can run from astonishingly simple,.. to "OMG I wish I had never started this!" In any event, take lots of pics and keep us posted on how the project went.
-- We'd be especially interested in what kind of bracketry worked or if you had to make anything in the way of custom bracketry needed.
-- Also, for those of us not blessed with a huge balance in our checking account, it'd be helpful if you could keep tabs on what you spend to make this happen.
-- Before you install the softail device, it would be good to find out what the performance of the bike is like in its current tune with the straight pie. If you have access to a dyno, that would be fantastic, but if you don't, just do a few runs in top gear from 40 to 70 noting the average time. Then when the install is complete, test it again to see if it got better or worse.
-- After you have the softail muffler on for a while, it would also be interesting to know how everything holds up. A large single cylinder bike like this puts some vibratory loads on all the little pieces, so an important factor in a project like this is always reliability/longevity.

To sum up, yes,.. you can always make a custom install like this work. If it goes on easily, that'll be nice.
-- If it is one of those projects that takes forever and never does work very well, at least the rest of us can benefit from the trail you blazed and the pitfalls/minefields you discovered.
-- This is one of the reasons I put so much stuff in the Double RYCA build thread,... I made a lot of mistakes, threw away a lot of parts I made, and wasted some time and money getting to the final version of the bike.
-- So,.. best of luck to you. Hope it works out nicely, and quiets the bike down some,.. I'll bet the straight pie really annoys your neighbors,.. not to mention you own hearing.
-- Anyway, let us know how it is progressing from time to time. It'll be a worthwhile project that'll have a lot of info many of us can use in the future should we want to try something like this.
