Title: moved....do I really need more air?
Post by residualsilver on 06/30/13 at 20:56:12

So I moved from Milwaukee to Westminster(just outside Denver). I haven't got my bike to turn over... thinking it might be flooded/battery. the bigger question is do i need to mess with the carb? if so can anyone point me in the right direction? :-?

Just get it started first... then, take a ride around and see how it runs...
If it feels okay. it's okay,... if it feels sluggish, or backfires like something ain't right,....   ... well,.. you know...
;)...

...(actually,.. the higher elevation will suck away a pony or two... That's to be expected... You'll feel it yourself, if you try a hike)...
Thin air...
... but, just see if the bike seems relatively smooth, and isn't totally out of it's element...
...(if you have stock jetting, it may even run a bit better)...
If you don't want to rejet,... try slapping a Harley shorty on there...
that might lean you up back to normal... ;D...

I live in Littleton, south of Denver but just as high, altitude wise.
I have a stock '04 Savage and it runs just fine with no adjustments.
I frequently ride in the mountains up to 10,000 feet and it STILL runs
just fine, does loose a little power though....

I live at 2500 feet and ride between home and about 3500, my stock bike runs just fine. I backed the idle screw out to reduce backfire but that's it. I'd just ride that bike until it acts up.

What does "won't turn over" mean?

The starter does not make the fly wheel rotate and the piston go up and down. ;)

Well that is what it means to me - but my wife uses that term when she can't get the engine to start.......even if the starter motor functions.

For the sake of this forum:

Won't turn over - Means the starter won't rotate the engine when the starter button is pushed.

Won't Fire - Means the starter turns the engine over but there is no explosion and "no joy" as our United Kingdom folks say.

wont turn as in cranks fine and sounds like it wants to start firing right but only get one, two or maybe mayybe three fires and no go. . . the gas is good, battery is charged up full. im messing around with it more this weekend.... I'm draining the bowl and see if that helps.

So after saying it won't turn over, turns out it turns over just fine. It just does not start. :-?

FYI, I live at 6500' elevation (see my signature block for bike info).

The jetting is stock in my original carb.  My bike runs great here like this.
