Title: best looking Ryca CS-1?
Post by beacon on 06/18/13 at 16:02:11

Was checking out the Ryca web site and linked to its facebook page and saw an incredible rendition of the company's cafe racer that I'd like to duplicate. Has anyone seen a CS-1 that's better looking or done than this?

Oooops! Forgot to mention it's called "Pocketmonster" and by Ryca's dealer in New York, ADS motorcycles.

It would be hard to pick a single RYCA conversion that is the "best", and any committee that picks one would probably not be unanimous.  Just like any custom bike there is a lot of the personality of the owner in each one.

I have always thought this was a great looking bike, and I had it posted in my office at work as inspiration to get the work on my bike finished.

The headcovers and the belt guard have wire screening installed in them......looks pretty cool.

Holly is a beautiful lady and a member here, so that makes it "special", but I also like the paint scheme on her bike. It has color & interest , but in a calm subdued way.
I like it very much.

the black one hands down....

Has anyone seen a RYCA that did not have the low pro tank. I am interested in how that might look, I have an 87 project that I want to cafe but I dont have the $ for the complete RYCA kit so I was thinking about fabing most of the parts myself and only buying from them what, technically, I cant build myself.

actually now that I look at it, does Holly have a low pro tank?

holy thread revival batman....

any one ever find a pic of a CS-1 without the tank conversion. I want to do a cafe racer with my '87 project bike but I dont want to pay $650 for a purely aesthetic mod. But, if its going to look stupid without the tank mod i want to know now before sinking $3k into parts.

I prefer the red one with the covers blacked out if I had to choose one.

That said, taking a lackluster bike and reducing its utility (for me) seems kind of screwy. If I'm dropping that kind of dough to customize a Savage, it's going to be a rigid, with at least 4" stretch in the rear AND in the backbone, 16" rear wheel, front TLS drum, springer or girder front end, drive chain (hate the belt), at least a 4.75 gallon tank, fabric covered bare minimum wiring, a real carb instead of a BS40...

Yeah, I'm officially way beyond burned out again... Every time I've looked at my bike for the last year, I see the log grapple on my front end loader wrapping it around a tree... before launching it into the deep section of the pond as an artificial reef.

Yeah........The one that I converted!

You also need to look at the one that Braveteacher did....he used a Benelli tank.

The problem with using the stock Savage tank - is that it sits too high in front and and would not look right.  It may also have an interference problem with the clip-on handlebars if the tank were left stock.

Stock tank, stock wheels, stock front suspension, clubman bars.  I think of it as a Sport Cafe Cruiser.

OldSport, I love the bike. Thank you for sharing. That is axactly what I was looking for and I think it looks great. Correct me if im wrong but it looks like the only RYCA parts you have are the

rearset and bracket
seat
rear brake linkage
batterybox
sidestand mount

This is kinda the direction I would like to go but with the bigger rear wheel and lowered front. I also will prob go with RYCA side covers. As for paint, I went to Auburn, so probably Orange and Blue....War Eagle! ;)

Actually the only parts I ordered from RYCA were, rear brake shoes, grips, air filter, and oil filter.  Everything else I either made, bought off ebay, had made, or sourced locally.   I have ordered the lowering kit (spacers only) and I am going to lower the front for handling reasons.  Take a look at my blog

http://thelycanproject.blogspot.com

it goes into some detail on the build.  I gave $500 for the bike an 86" and spent about another $1300.  The rear tire is a 140/90 15.  The outside diameter is the same as the 18" RYCA wheel and tire.  I really like the fat rear tire look.  The major changes that affect the handling are the 13" rear shocks and droping the front.  The 18" front wheel only drops the front an additional 1/2 inch.  it's never going to be a sport bike hence the "Sport Cafe Cruiser"  I only cut the frame at the mounts for the chain guard because of the rubbing on the belt due to the longer rear shocks and change in swingarm angle.  I added highway pegs to the frame on the front.  Really helps if you are riding long distances.  I also recomend having someone professionally paint the bike for you.  The pictures are rattle can paint and clear coat.  first time I put gas in it I over filled it, the clear coat began to melt.  I had everything sand blasted or stripped and I am having it professionally painted.  I look forward to seeing your build.

That is a very good looking bike!
What kind of gas tank are you using, if one can ask! [ch9786]

I am using the Suzuki Gt380/550 tank.  It is not a bolt on tank, and I did have to play blacksmith to the bottom of the tank to get it to sit lower, and I had to notch the tank to clear the cam tower.  You can see the work in my build thread.

Here is a photo of the bike now that it is painted.  I have some better photos at work, and I will update this photo Tuesday.

glad this older thread was revived, I like the look of project lycan, it'd be a quick and easy way to get a 'sport cafe cruiser' cheaply, though not really a cafe
