strictly speaking, the topic I wrote to learn-what motorcycles like you specifically.
I saw that such a handsome.. I have rarely met beautiful, really beautiful bikes...and I always liked Kawasaki Vulcan drifter...

If someone gave me a blank check & said "Here, go buy the bike youll ride till you cant ride any more" Id get a Kawasaki W-650. NOt for their beauty & styling, but the engineering. I Like the looks okay.BUt I really prefer STandard seating, over cruisers, so, it wins there. The drifter is classy looking, but, I like the W for all kinds of reasons, so. Thats my BIke..

That drifter is a real beauty! I agree and I would like to have one, I had a yellow Honda Valkyrie for a few years.  What a bike....1520cc's, 6 cylinder, 6 carb's, very reliable, but built for someone taller than 5'8". It was super quick. I had a hard time convincing myself to sell it. I am very happy with my Suzuki Savage. It is better suited for leisure rides on the local mountain back roads and I no longer stand on tiptoes at redlights. My Valkyrie was great for riding highways at 95mph in the rain when I knew that there would be no radar. Commonsense told me that someday I would either get stopped by the police or a deer, so I listened to commonsense and sold it.

wambr that's a very nice bike and well thought out in the details but it is way too fancy for me! My ideal bike would more likely to be the Triumph Speedmaster with a few mild modifications and subtle paintwork.

Nothing in production currently appeals to me...
If Triumph would make a thumper in a bobber/tard sorta' motif'?...
This one is based on a Honda xl600...

That is a very difficult question to answer. To me, there isn't one perfect bike. I would need quite a few to have the "right" one at the right time. I really like my Savage. I would love to add a Valkyrie trike to the corral. I would be happy with pretty much anything that isn't a V-twin.

Title: Re: the bike you want.
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/09/13 at 11:03:13

Now Now NOW!,, Dont lump ALL V-twins into the same pot.
A Guzzi is a 90* V twin, they sound like a V8.

Want for what purpose?

Generic beat the snot out of it, throw it away with no great loss and get another for a song? Savage or Sportster.

Long term keeper? Easy, pre-65 HD Big Twin in a rigid frame with a springer. Any pre-50 Chief or 20s/30s Scout. Maybe a pre-unit Brit bike.

Have to be metric? 1999 VN1500J (Drifter) or VN1500 Classic (factory black out model only since I truly despise chrome and would black it out anyway), ANY year VN800A or VN800 Drifter (had a Classic, not impressed but would get another if it was cheap enough and 100% flawless, it would get a 21" front wheel conversion for improved handling).

What else? 100% original and flawless WW2 BMW WITH all of it's Wermacht or (preferably) Waffen-SS stencils intact. Wouldn't likely ride it, seeing as my last antique (1951) BMW broke in half going down the road...  >:(

I know you like it, but the 1500 Drifter with a blending of Plains and Aztec motifs really needs to be repainted in ONE theme. And, the 1500 Drifters, while nice to look at, are nightmares to work on. Trust me, there's one at our farm... a first year at that. It decided it doesn't want to play anymore with just shy of 85K miles on the clock... waiting for an 03 Mean Streak clutch spring set to get here, apparently a Barnett carbon fiber clutch and an 85K mile factory Drifter spring set are NOT a good match...

So, where are all the people who'd vote to keep only their Slowpokey Salvage if they could in fact have any other bike... ? Hmm... ?

One of the biggest fan sites for the model, in the world... and not many would have one...  :-?

This is my current ride.  I got it three months ago when my Savage died with 50k miles on it.  I have put 10k miles on this scoot in the last three months, including a 2600 mile trip I just made to California and Northern Nevada.  It has run like s Swiss watch.  There is a lot that I miss about the Savage, but there is also a lot that I like about this bike.

Title: Re: the bike you want.
Post by WD on 06/09/13 at 14:21:19

It is rather nice to be able to get out of your own way for a change, isn't it? My Savage is generally a back up bike, on the rare occasions it still comes out to play instead of being a high rise for spiders. The electrical system failed about 3 years ago, bike has been in pieces ever since. I'll work on it a bit, get bored, push it aside in favor of something else. Still like it, just don't give a dam (I hate the filters on this site) if it gets done any time soon. It's an interesting toy, but a miserable excuse for a motorcycle. Has been since the day I bought it brand new in Feb 1998. Should have bought something a bit bigger, the way I ride, and my height/weight versus the bike's height/weight isn't exactly fair to the machine. I'm used to 74 inch or larger engines, a just shy of 40 incher doesn't cut it...

I love my savage for local runs , but it just doin't do ridding double on the interstates very well.

Seem to me everybody needs at least TWO bikes , or Three ??? :P

No, every rider needs SEVEN bikes, minimum, one for every day of the week so you don't get bored riding the same one day after day.  ;) My personal best was 15 at one time, not counting dirt bikes or street 2 strokes (which don't count because the only thing I hate more than chrome is 2 stroke engines).

Thankyou. I love it. Reacon its the best bike I've ever owned. Some have been faster, some handled better, but this just seems to really make me happy when i ride.

My wife says pretty much the same thing about her S40!

Am loving both the Sportster and the Speedmaster in the pics! Great Bikes guys!

Any Bike?? Well, it'd prolly be a Guzzi V7 Stone for me ... though a Yamahog Bolt (sat on one this past Sat.; fabulous!!), 883 Iron, Shadow RS or a W650 would also be on my list ... I ain't picky and would gladly take either!

Before getting my first road bike (and only road bike so far) my current S40, I was dead set on wanting a Road King Classic similar to this one...

http://www.harley-roadkings.com/2001_road_kings/images-ev0002/2001_Harley_Road_King_Classic_01-468x351.jpg

I figured I would keep my little S40 for a few years then upgrade to what I really wanted. BUT, after having this bike since 2009, I REALLY like this bike and even when I do go to get a new bike, I don't plan on getting rid of this one. I think I will reincarnate it in a different style once I get a different bike  8-)

EDIT:
In hindsight...my current bike has taken on a kind of mini-Road Kingesque appearance  ;D

I have never been turned on by harleys, new or old, unless they have been chopped up. not long choppers and no factory chrome, but brats, bobbers, and short chops are the bees knees. If i was given one to butcher, i could make something I could love.

there is no new production bike i have really been pining after, except maybe the Honda CB 1100, and even it would need to go on a diet.

Now, give me an old BMW R75... *swoon*  ::)
I have a cafe style Honda GL1000 that a lot of people mistake for an old airhead.

EDIT: Triumph, I would buy a new Triumph.

Well for aesthetics alone I would choose the C5 chrome

For all around looks, drivability and reliability probably the Thruxton

easy!

1- Ducati Panigale 1199, R, of course.
2- a big'ol hawg. Road king, street glide, ultra.....it don't matter.
Make sure it's black, & 110" CVO.
Rode my FIL's Harley Night Rod last week......beautiful sounds at 7k RPM, & enough stomp to murder the pushrod motor bikes.

Pretty fun.....but I'll take a street glide over it.

I certainly understand a lot, not quite, as you say, guys...but I want to understand why so many of you like cafe racers, choppers, and bobs? and why many of you want to remove the factory chrome and some parts with their bikes? why are there so few do sweepers for example? they don't like?

My be-all-end-all bike hasn't been built yet. Though the Lito Sora is coming pretty close. If they can get Brammo's clutch system in there we'll have a winner.

I'm having a heck of a time with bikes right now. My wife has agreed to another bike (though I suspect she expects I'll sell the savage) and I can't think of any bike that I'd rather have as an only bike.

Backyard Customs are cool ... and in some cases "works of art" ... as a motorcycle enthusiast, I personally can definitely apppreciate the the craftsmanship of certain Customs and can imagine that actually creating, owning and Riding something uniquely "yours" must be pretty cool too! 8-)

I like the bikes I own but I would like a few more.  One would be an old  BMW R60/5, red.  Another bike I would like is a seventies Honda CB350 and a Honda CX 500 the one with the V twin mounted like a Guzzi.  A Yamaha XS650 would be nice to have.

Among the new bikes the only ones I like are the retro classic style bikes and I pretty much like all of those.  I find it hard to pick just one bike to like, they all look good to me.

I would like to get another one of these, although I haven't got my fingers crossed. When I was 15, and trying to get parts for it Royal Enfield (the one in Redich England) told me they had only exported 5 of that model to Canada on a special order basis. It's a '37.

Well,, its sure a sexy thing,, My beef with the Guzzi was the pegs were so close to the seat I felt like a jockey on a race horse. Otherwise, I liked riding it, but I did have a real close call with it in a curve. I had a centerstand added to the Nevada & I was in a right turn & either that thing got down & jacked the rear end off the road a little or I got on the pipe, I never found out exactly, but we got waaaay squirrely there for
a second. Thot I was goin down for sure, IN the long run, didnt matter, stuffed it into the side of a pickup..

Cloudy what Operating system are you running. I am using W7 and when I follow the pic posting method for posting multiple pic it doesnt work for me.
Just curious how you did it.

XP SP3.
I upload pics to photo bucket then select photo to bring up full size then click on the IMG link on the side, it says copied then I use ctrl-V to post in the reply box. Press enter to start a new line and do it again.
I'm sure some one will come along and say there is an easier way but it works for me

I can post a link to a third party like Photo Bucket but for the life of me I cannot load more than 1 pic directly like you have above. :-[

I've quoted his pictures so you can see how he did it.
What I do is open the pic's in the browser (IE, Firefox, etc)
right click on the picture
IE select properties and copy the URL addy
Firefox has an option to copy the location
then go where you want to post it
click on the http://suzukisavage.com/yabb2.2/Templates/Forum/default/img.gif icon
and paste the URL addy in the middle.

[/quote]

Ouch!  Same thing happened on my R75...ground some off the rear brake lever and the solid mounted foot peg...gets your attention right quick!  With Guzzi's, you either love 'em or you hate 'em. Not much middle ground. The Nevada did have limited cornering clearance and funky peg location

Hard to believe no one mentioned Suzuki's Water Buffalo. Or Honda's CBX.
