Title: Rear tire size's
Post by dezertboy on 06/08/13 at 21:41:30

Newb here, just got a 2006 S40 love it so far. Question is will a 140/90/15 rear fit with stock rear fender. Nobody has the 140/80 in town here. But they have the 140/90. Thanks

I run a Dunlop that size, no hassles. Some have had to replace the fender bolts with Low Profile headed bolts to keep tires from rubbing,

Apparently the 140/90 makes your speedo more accurate. The 140/80 is a curiousity.

I know I was glad to get rid of the stock tire, it was a slick at 7,000 miles. I replaced it with a Metzler 880 and have since put about 16,000 on the Metzler and still have plenty of tread left. I also did not have any problems with fender bolts rubbing on the 140/90 tire. It seems to be 50/50 chance on if the bolts will rub or not.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will be putting on the 140/90 and hopefully it doesn't rub..

just for giggles I did a search for the OEM IRC Brand tires and found them sometime ago sold by a retail motorcycle and accessory website.

I have to watch my lean on turns with the Stock tires or I'll go into a slide, but there are comparable other makes that will fit if you look.

I recently put on Metzler 880s.  They are wonderful, extraordinary better than the OEM tires.  I did have to remove saddlebag supports as well as find a smaller or more profile bolt on the right side.  Best regards.

I hated my OEM rear tire. I appreciated it, too. It was scary. Felt like it was gonna dump me in corners. That gave me 5,000 miles of riding
carefully.. I learned the feel of slipping on asphalt. Much as I cussed that tire, I think it helped me, as a rider.

Might be an OEM replacement. But it is worn out, has 2 spots were you can almost see the tube, and the guy was still riding it.

Took the tire off today so I could drop it off at the shop. Checked the DOT number and it is in fact from 2005. So one would assume it is the OEM tire. Just cant wait to get the new one on so I can start riding the darn thing...
