Title: Bike won't start, need help.
Post by fuzzybunny on 06/03/13 at 22:30:24

I'm a complete newb at the mechanical aspect of motorcycles, so I don't know where to start with this.  The tank has gas, petcock is stuck on reserve.  The light turns on but the engine won't start.  I've had the bike for about a month or two and it ran fine until a couple days ago.  Any ideas as to what the issue might be?

...and,.. stuck on reserve,... that's not a good thing...
...(Crank on that puppy... work it back and forth)...

ig switch to on, not park?
neutral?
clutch in?
kill switch to on?

sometimes kickstand up will help.

These things are known for Promising & Trying to start with a battery thats just a little lower than a full 12 volts,,
If youve spent much time on that starter button & had no joy, recommend you get a volt meter on it, or just charge it.
& yes, make sure all the buttons & switches are alighned correctyly

Sorry if this is a dumb question... How do I charge the battery?

and when talking starting, you should indicate if it is cranking when you hit the button, or no cranking but yes clicking, or perhaps nada..no nothing.  Each condition could lead to different diagnosis....or something like that. ;D
Do you know how to check for a spark??  ps, low battery is most common problem I suspect.  Good luck and  don't be afraid to ask any question..we have many answers (some right and some no too right)>

It's clicking, but not cranking.  How do you check for a spark?  Thanks.

"Clicking but not cranking" is almost certainly a battery problem. You have to remove the battery to check all six cells for water. Only with a fully charged battery can you begin doing the other electrical checks to see that your charging system is working.

UPDATE:  I charged the battery and got the bike started long enough to run some errands and get back home.  When I tried to start it again, the same old problem came up.  I think what I'll do now is replace the battery.
