Title: 2002 savage front brake & Speedo vibration
Post by newsavageguy on 05/30/13 at 19:34:30

Hello,

I am new to the Savage family with an 02 a month ago have added new z-bars from Ebay and 3.5" risers also a slip on pipe from an 05 Dyna glide last on my list is the Dyna jet kit stage 1 & k&n air filter. 9300 miles and it is in great shape. I have two questions put new pads in the front caliper and developed a squeak like the pads are tight or rotor slightly warped? Second thing trying to figure out is the Speedo gauge in the tank vibrates annoyingly when riding any suggestions how to eliminate?

new,

There is a thread in the Technical section that addresses the speedo vibration problem.

Good luck!

If the brakes only squeak/squeal when you apply them, a little bit of high temp grease on the BACK of the pads where they contact the caliper and the piston sometimes helps. If they squeak all the time then something is not right. Grab the caliper and make sure you can wiggle it a little bit. It needs to be able to slide on the pins so that the pad opposite the piston can release from the rotor when you're not pulling the lever.

The slide pins are #6 and #8 on this diagram. Parts list calls them bolts.

What brand/type of pads did you install?

Is the squeak continuous - or does it cycle with the rotation of the wheel?

Stock pads? <<shudder>>

yeah, they tend to squeal.

next time Kevlar pads tend not to squeal.

Try the usual tech mentioned, also washing with soap and water helps for a bit.

Also, get them hot, drive off all moisture works too.  same for the back too.
