Title: Jardine mufffler
Post by pgambr on 05/28/13 at 08:03:14

I am interested in replacing my stock muffler with a jardine.  Has any else had an experience with one of those.  I don't want to have to rejet.  I would like the new clean look and a better sound  Thanks for your assistance.

LOUD!.... and you should rejet... they are very open...

If you don't want to rejet.... try a Harley shorty, fully baffled... it might run better with a rejet,.. but it will survive if you don't... and has a much better sound...
Info here...http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1298689417
Rejetting is much simpler with a well baffled muffler...
... so, you'll have better running, and performance, with less trouble...

A Jardine, without careful rejetting is nothing more than an expensive noisemaker... your performance will drop...

practicality is a Dyna or sporty muffler. Better performance than stock, much better sound, no one hates you, cost is little,,

I have a jardine and it is loud, like obnoxious loud, but I like it that way. the more I learn about these bikes, people riding them in different parts of the country in different jetting and whatnot the more I realize that one thing might work for my bike but not at all for my neighbor's bike. don't be afraid to get in there and change some stuff around. if you and I have the same carburetor I could give you all kinds of advice. and as soon as I fix my electrical problem I'll be able to tune it properly.

I would suggest that there are not 3 F's in a Jardine Mufler,, maybe not even 1 F,, a 3 f muffler would be pretty quiet Id think..

You are correct regarding the spelling.  What is involved with rejetting a standard carb?  Thanks for the insight.

One other question.  When you post a new topic how do you get the little tab that says new in blue?

It's automatic... it only shows up if you are logged in,.. and it goes away once you click on the thread...
It's to let individuals know that there is a new post in this thread since the last time they looked at it...

Get the Jardine. The sound will attract hot women and scare off small animals. ;)

That sounds good, we can always use a bit of extra help there.  Will I need to rejet?  Can you make any recomendations of what worked for you?  I have a standard carb.  Thanks for the insight, it is appreciated.

I honestly can't tell you if you will need to rejet or not, however I can assure you that should u feel the need to rejet, I'll help you through it. also jets are cheap and the process for changing them is simple.
Before my bikes little electrical problem that I'm trying to sort out now she ran awesome with a 52.5 pilot and a 152.5 main which i believe is actually stock for my year (2003).
So bolt a jardine on there, maybe wrap the pipe and get a K&N cone filter,,, fire it up, see what happens.

I bought my 07 used with a Jardine already on it and it is horrible loud. Serowbot is right on about the performance w/o rejetting, too. I can't ride at highway speed for more than a half hour w/out getting a migrane and the noise around town just makes everyone mad. Currently looking to find a stock muffler.

I have a jardine on my 03 and let me tell you it's loud. It comes down to your preference. I think it's a bit loud but only at night when things settle down. However I think it's good overall. I think others have also purchased the Harley short muffler. Good luck with purchase.

Id Never put a stock muffler on,, too heavy & too ugly. The Dyna is cheap & attractive & saves pounds & sounds better.

I have an 06 with a Jardine Muffler I'd like to sell if you want one. Sound is way too loud for me. I can't stand it. You must re-jet if you want one.

I bought a 98 used with one recently, i love the sound of it. it's only loud if you want it to be in my opinion. heavy throttle = loud noise, light throttle = minimal noise.

Teggy, thanks I appreciate the offer.  The rejetting is a bit more of a project than I want to do at this time.  I'm a bit weary of the rejetting without any experience.  Best regards.

not to hijack, but anyone have any suggestions for removing surface rust/corrosion from the jardine/header?

sand blasters are awesome. A wire wheel on a grinder will work good too.

ketchup for a few hours and aluminum foil (lightly)

On chrome surface rust I useually use #0000 steel wool, make sure its got 4 zero's. I get mine at wally world (wal-mart) comes in a bag with about six or eight pillows (don't know what else to call them). The #0000 will not scratch good chrome, but might scratch some of the chromed plastics, try small area not visable. But on every muffler or pipe i've used it on, it has worked great, I use it on almost every chromed part on my motorcycles.

Aluminum Foil and Coke....and maybe Ketchup does a good fast job of taking the rust off....however it does not do mucc to make is smooth and it will be rought to the touch where the rust buts up against the chrome.  The 0000 Steel wool and some real "chrome" polish works to make it smooth again.  The rusty areas are prone to rusting again as there is no protective chorme on top of that area anymore.....so it will rust again when it becomes wet.

I have a jardine and it is LOUD. I like the look the slash cut muffle and it a bonus that it will save my life because a deaf driver will feel the rumble of my exhaust ;D. I'm pretty much at sea level and use 52.5 pilot and 152.5 main with about half white spacer. Pilot screw is out 3 turns ( I know it's out far but the bike hates the 55 pilot jet)

this does work like a charm just make sure to keep a good coat of wax on it to keep it from rusting.... but from my prior experience use the steel wool and wax method  ;)

I dont have a jardine I have a HD competition pipe, i want the jardine but for the whopping price of FREE ill use the one I have for now.... I say catch me if u can to the guys that get mad but the smiles I get from the ladies are worth the risk of having one of those guys catch up to me thats why i wear a full face with a mirrored visor so they guys get to see their  angry faces lol oh yeah its a great deer deterrent too ;)
