Title: Adding a power block or power (cig) recepticle
Post by old_rider on 05/27/13 at 08:23:01

How much extra power can I draw from this system? I am planning on adding a cigarette type marine grade plug to charge the wifes phone or power a gps for trips to places we don't frequent.
I've added a power block with six fuses on about every bike i've owned to add driving lights, running lights, phone and gps and even a stereo amp to boost speakers.
I'm only planning on running maybe one or two things and they will be switchable so I won't be running more than maybe two things at a time.
I've always put a relay inline and never ever used the bikes wiring harness, i've always come directly from the battery terminal to power the fuse block/powerplug and grounded it to the main block grounds.
I'm just not sure how much I can draw, so thought i'd ask before I blew a rectifier or something.

the savage can run 2 stock headlights with not much more left for charging a battery.

LOL, just had one of my "brain twist spikes".... What about adding a battery to charge batteries? or run small electronics like led's , gps or ipod type phones? Small (3-5") inducted impellor/propellor generating power to a 12v lithium? Just a brain fart mind you, but could prove usefull for a "self build" type of thing. Separate from the bikes system so as not to "tax" it beyond capabilities.... or possibly a solar charge system? although I think the wind generator would produce more power since it charges while your moving and you could use the charging system at night while moving (running lights).
What say you? its it crazy? or crazy enough to work?
