I did the white spacer mods on my 2001 Savage back in '06 and it had been running great. I started having problems after the bike sat for almost a year, so I decided to do a carb overhaul. However, I buggered up the low speed mixture screw. I seemed to seize up, and my continued efforts resulted in a stripped slot.
My question: Can the screw be drilled out or something?
I sure would appreciate any help you can offer.

You're welcome. Couple of other bits of advice - make sure you have a nice bright light shining on the screw so you can see what you're doing. Take your time and make sure you get the hole drilled dead center in the head of the screw. Getting the hole drilled straight and centered is the most important part of the whole procedure.

& close it, ever so gently, counting the turns IN, so you can always get back to square one. Thats soft brass, so, if you close it & snug it, you messed up, fingertips on a small driver, only,

You guys gave me the confidence to to this. I followed the advice from the above link and DUDE, the air screw is out. It was not that stuck, but the buggered-up slot was useless.
I cleaned up the screw and made sure that the #10 Tork made a good fit so that now I can use a Tork T-handle to adjust the air mixture instead of a standard slotted screwdriver.
Tomorrow I will get some fresh gasoline and give it a shot.
P.S. What's the maximum # turns out before having to change jets? I do have the Hartman mods on my muffler.

When the scew is turned out 3 turns......the tapered portion of the needle no longer has any effect on limiting flow and additonal turns will not make any difference. The Mikuni manual suggests that the iideal pilot jet will result in the screw being turned out 1.5 turns at the best idle mixture .....but I am happpy as long as it is less than 2.

Got the bike running, and it is running sweet. I'm at 2 1/2 turns out on the air mix screw. Should I consider a jet change? Also, which jet to change, the main or pilot jet?

You will be OK at 2.5 turns. I am running at 2.75 turns with no problem. And the jet you would change would be the pilot jet.
