Title: No Go Post by JBK on 05/17/13 at 20:37:56 So I left from work just fine and 30 seconds up the road I get a loss of power and no throttle response. Pulled over and shut her off. Then there was nothing. No power, no headlight, no nothing. Checked for shorts best I could on side of the road but came up empty. I started just fine the minute before. Just died on me. Its an 01 with almost 23k miles. Where should I start looking? |
Title: Re: No Go Post by verslagen1 on 05/17/13 at 20:42:37 look for smoke, you gotta short. |
Title: Re: No Go Post by JBK on 05/17/13 at 20:46:15 Hoping its thats simple. Battery is only a year old. Never been a problem. Will start tracking it down tomorrow. Thanks for quick response. |
Title: Re: No Go Post by verslagen1 on 05/17/13 at 21:09:39 likely the fuse is blown now, but you need to find the short. |
Title: Re: No Go Post by Qwapy on 05/17/13 at 21:21:46 Check the fuses. Find the short. What was the last work you did to the bike before the mishap? trace your steps back |
Title: Re: No Go Post by JBK on 05/18/13 at 01:59:14 adjusted valves over a week ago. nothing since. just came out of nowhere. |
Title: Re: No Go Post by JBK on 05/18/13 at 12:23:12 So it was a fuse. Replaced and everything seems ok. Couldnt find any short or wires that would cause one. Fingers crossed. And on a unrelated note. Should the chrome covers on top of engine be getting super hot? dont remember them doing so before. |
Title: Re: No Go Post by Qwapy on 05/18/13 at 13:27:23 Still. It would be nice to find out "what" caused the fuse to go. Those chrome parts do get hot, not as hot as the exhaust pipe though |
Title: Re: No Go Post by scannerzer on 05/18/13 at 15:16:01 i had a fuse blow unexplainably but a few days before i had to crank the bike a lot ot get her started,I assumed i had weakened it and then it just blew for the hell of it sometime later :-/ :-/ |
Title: Re: No Go Post by JBK on 05/27/13 at 21:26:30 So my last post was about having a fuse blown. That problem was fixed. I finally have the oppurtunity to run down that short that might have caused it. In the process my starter relay touched frame and now I got no more power. No lights, start, nothing. And my fuses are intact. So what now? |
Title: Re: No Go Post by Serowbot on 05/28/13 at 07:39:07 Did you check the fuses with a meter,.. or just look at them?... :-?... |
Title: Re: No Go Post by JBK on 05/28/13 at 20:34:14 eye balled em |
Title: Re: No Go Post by justin_o_guy2 on 05/28/13 at 22:04:36 Prove them, test lite or volt meter |
Title: Re: No Go Post by Dane Allen on 05/29/13 at 11:55:06 And test the relay, you will need a fused link. |
