Title: What One Thing Makes Your Ride More Enjoyable? Post by Greg on 05/17/13 at 12:09:41 I started this thread on my Meetup group. I am curious what it is for my Savage friends as well. If you could choose only one thing that makes your ride more comfortable and enjoyable, what would it be? I have added a windshield, rider's backrest, different handlebars, etc. (as have many of you) which all contributed to a more comfortable, safer, and enjoyable ride for me. However the one thing that makes the biggest difference in my riding is earplugs. I can still hear traffic and conversations so I am not deaf to the world, but the wind noise is dramatically decreased. That decrease, for me anyway, makes my ride so much better. I don't know if it is the frequency of the wind noise, the level of the wind noise, or the feeling that the sound makes it seem like I am traveling 3X my rate of speed, but I arrive at my destination much more relaxed and can travel longer without fatigue. The ear plugs make the same difference to me whether I am wearing my half, 3/4, or full face helmet. (I actually get the most wind noise in my 3/4 helmet). I tried a bunch of different ear plugs until I found some that fit comfortably and are washable/reusable. Is there anything that does the same for you? |

Never a thought of "when are we gonna stop? my tushy is killing me". On a similar note, The mustang seat i added to my C50 was also a great improvement. AL |

Hence your 2.2 gal calculation? Do you know how long it's been since I used the word "hence"? Me either. I TOOK time Thursday to enjoy 76 degree weather and sun after riding about 50% less this year. Took a quiet route and rode about 25 miles to a quiet picnic table at a burger joint where you get grease down your wrists if you're not careful. Cheeseburger, fries, Dr P, $5. Asked the girl there if I could drive her Camaro SS with 180 on the speedometer. She laughed and said' "No, but it'll do it." Rode back and took a 14 mile side trip to see an old (82 yr old) friend who can't ride with me anymore. His wife has Alzheimer's. Knowing I will have a Birmingham type hip replacement in June and off the bike for at least a month made it a great day. Looking forward to being able to ride more later made it great, also. I feel alone and serene even when riding with a partner, which I rarely do. :) |

I'm ridding on a modified Harley Soft-tail seat. but the feelings is the same ! 8-) :) Fast enough to stay in High gear and slow enough that the wind is not a bother ;) |

Without a helmet,... I get get watery eyes,... gusts of wind up my nose, takes my breath away... and the tiniest bug feels like a shot with a BB gun... I'm gonna' give a FF helmet as my number one comfort... ... oooh!... and my earring starts flapping at over 50mph... ;D... ,,,and that's why I don't have a nosering... (okay,.. that's not really why... my nose needs no help getting attention)...;D... |

I would say good gear! I feel absolutely freakin naked without at the least a helmet, gloves, and boots. And I really prefer my Vanson jacket, as well. 90% of the time this is my attire. Oh, & earplugs. When I first started riding I read about using earplugs, & thought to myself, "why!?"......I tried them once, & I practically hate riding without them. I even wore them on my dirt rig. |

Nothing nicer than cruising a back country twisty road going about 25mph while slightly buzzed with a little homegrown in my system. Can that be so wrong? |
