Title: Question about rear shocks... Post by renegade1 on 05/15/13 at 23:03:09 Hey guys been a while but im working on my bike again and im excited to do some work. Wondering if anyone had lowered their rear shocks? I was thinking about two inches. sound good or no? and can i take them apart to paint them or how do i go about this? If anyone can help me it'll be highly appreciated. |

I came across a link not too long ago of someone who took apart the shocks off an LS650 and cut the springs down 3/4" I believe it was and installed them on a different bike. They had a complete visual tutorial on the process, sorry but I didn't bookmark it as I was looking for something else :-? |

Not sure if this is true but I was thinking about painting mine with plasti dip or something that will flex. |

I think the real issue on the Savage Shocks is surface prep....getting a good base for the paint to stick to. Post by groupus on 05/16/13 at 09:47:59 You COULD take them apart and cut the springs, but then you'll be bottoming out everything on everything - shock, fender, butt ;D Plus it'll probably ride like crap, like those kids in Hondas with cut springs. Burly Slammers are the lowest shocks I know of, but they are 10.5" eye-to-eye, which is the same as the savage. FYI. I took apart and painted the shocks on my 78 goldwing cafe bike with epoxy paint found at Advanced auto. It has a picture of a motorcycle shock on the can. It has chipped off some, probably because it is hard to prep chrome springs and I didn't use a primer. Plasti dip is the way to go. it is a rubberized coating. You can by spray cans at Lowes in white, black, and safety yellow :D |

I have a side shot of my bike with the lowered fender. It is a substantial difference. I used about a 3/4" spacer and the rear of the fender dropped about 2". I am a big man and I have never bottomed out. |
