Title: Yamaha V-Star Classic Post by greenmonster on 05/11/13 at 10:01:36 I have a chance to pick one up. Does anyone have any experience with them or have they heard anything about them? It looks to be in pretty good condition but I haven't had a chance to ride it so I'm asking those who know. How does it compare to our beloved Savage? Or not so beloved after it left me stranded on the Sea-to-Sky Hwy last night. |

Similar performance to a Savage... more comfy for 2-up... Slightly slower acceleration,.. slightly higher top speed... (not much)... Carbs are a booger... and take care doing oil changes,... the bolts that hold the filter cover will strip out easy...(go gentle when tightening, a little weep at the seal will go away after a day or so,... never try to tighten up to make it go away)... Rear tire changes are involved... due to shaft drive... Otherwise, nice machine... reliable, and handles well for a boat... ;)... |

She has ridden twice to Sturgis from here and will has another trip planned for 2014. She and her hubby have also ridden thru the Redwoods and few other places. Again she loves her bike and plans on keeping it.. :)kim |

Title: Re: Yamaha V-Star Classic Post by Sheriff41 on 05/18/13 at 02:08:04 I've got both a V Star 650 Custom and 1100 Classic. They're both reliable all around bikes. The 650 is preferred for around town and the 1100 is great for two-up all day outings. They're both fairly easy to DIY maintenance. The oil change on the 1100 is not that bad, though you do need to loosen the front exhaust pipe to change the oil filter. Not a big deal, though. The 650 is comfortable for two-up also. The 4.7 gallon tank is nice and takes you a long way. |
