Title: Handleb
Post by Jimmy on 05/06/13 at 23:33:58

Ugggggh, I did a search before asking, but has anyone found a way to pull the weights out of the handlebars??  I looked all over, and finally found a set of the old BMW style bar end blinkers to fit our handlebars, but I need to modify the weights a bit to fit them (as in trimming them down and drilling a hole through them for the wires).  I tried a couple of smacks with a hammer, but that didn't budge them

I don't think you'll get them out... they're welded in...
Never heard of anyone removing them...
You can buy aftermarket, for $20 or $30 bucks...

BMW's are usually 7/8" bars...as far as I'm aware...
...but you can always shim to make 7/8" stuff fit in a 1" bar...

+1 to Serow I don't think your going to get them out completely.  Were you looking to wire through the bars or is it that you need more space deeper in the bars to mount the lights? Some people have drilled into them to mount bar end mirrors, if you just need more clearence you may be able to drill out enough to use the lights  ;)

Can be done, others will question your sanity, but it can be done.
How safe will they be after? ... don't know.
2 big ol' holes, sharp edges to chaffe the wires...
You'll be much better off getting another set of bars though.

Yeah, I found a set of BMW style bar end blinkers that fit 1" bars, but the weight is in the way for them to slide all the way in.  I was hoping I could pull it out, cut a little off, and drill a hole for the wire.  Guess I'll be looking for new bars if I can't get them out :-/

Pragmatist here..

Beware the false economy of not buying bars to do what ya want.

Doesnt take much time invested in a deal like that to be goin backwards on "Savings". Especially if its a pain to run the wires & then have them slowly chafe in the ragged holes till they create electrical issues.
