Title: put a stock size back on the front: impressions Post by runwyrlph on 05/03/13 at 12:01:50 The (first) last time I replaced my front tire i accidently ordered a 110-90-19. I got it mounted on the wheel, then found out my fender was too small! I ended up raising the fender about 1.5 " with brackets made of 1/8 steel. I ran it that way for about ?? 12K ?? Didn't really notice much of a difference going to the larger tire at that time. It was time to replace again, I went back to the 100-90-19 (same model- Kenda Challenger). First ride was this AM- I was surprised- handling was considerably improved with the stock size tire. I really noticed it when hitting curves fairly hard. It feels a lot more stable. (Not much difference going straight, maybe a little easier to start into turn from going straight) Maybe my fender bracket allowed a little more flex than just the fender? 3-4 years ago when i switched it maybe i just didn't curve as hard? (I do think it looked a little better with the bigger tire and higher fender) |
Title: Re: put a stock size back on the front: impression Post by Serowbot on 05/03/13 at 12:11:24 I imagine the taller tire would increase rake, very slightly, and also shift weight to the rear... very slightly again... I doubt if I would notice... Maybe you just have a better, fresher tire... (that, I would notice)... You gotta' love fresh meat on pavement... :-?... |
Title: Re: put a stock size back on the front: impression Post by WD on 05/03/13 at 13:31:05 Next time, try a 2.75 or 3.00-19, in conjunction with a 130 rear... you'll scare yourself with how much faster the bike turns... and the 130/?-15 rear is for a Honda super scooter (Pacific Coast), serious life span on our bikes. Tried that combo on Max Morley's advice years ago... turns your "Slopoki Salvage" into a decent handling machine... ::) It is tricky to find a long lasting tire in skinny 19 inch though... |
