Title: K&N RC 2340 question
Post by JLight on 05/03/13 at 06:07:02

Is anybody successfully running the K&N RC2340 with the 2.125" inlet?  I measured my carb and it's 2.25".  K&N claims only 1/16" of stretch so it shouldn't fit but one guy mentioned that he was using it anyway.  I've searched the site but can't find hardly any mention of actual part numbers that people are using.  I like the smaller overall size of the 2340 as opposed to the 1250.  Please let me know which cone filters you guys are using.  Thanks.

Here is a good link to check all KN variables
http://www.knfilters.co.uk/universal.aspx

This is the other alternative:

Thanks but I'm looking for personal experience with the 2340 filter or any filter with a 2.125" (54mm) flange.

I'm just curious about fitment. I do not care how well it works. I have a motorcycle that makes 160 hp. I'm not doing this for performance.

Your Savage makes 160hp?

My FJR makes 140,.. I'd never use a K&N on it.  That motor would cost more than I make in months to replace.

I have a K&N on the RYCA bike, but only because that was what came with the kit.  Somewhere in the project list is finding way to replace it with a paper filter.

What about all that engine-eating dust that gets through?  What about the changes in mixture as it loads up with dust?

I once had a bike as a kid that had one of these "filters."

Truthfully the bike will not see a ton of ride time. Only on nice days and there's not a lot of dust on paved roads. I have a CBR 929 that's worked over pretty well. It makes 145 hp at the rear wheel. I also have a stock Savage that my wife rides. The one I'm building is a chopper. It's basically an exercise in fab work. I'm trying to make everything myself. I want the look of a pod filter.

I've been looking for velocity stack with that type of filter that you posted but they are hard to find cheap.

I wish I knew how. I think most of them are spun. I'm not sure how to make the flare other than wasting a butt load of stainless on a lathe.

A guy at a bike show last year said he makes them out of old trumpets/trombones/carhorns/weird funnels that he gets from yard sales and flea markets.
