Title: Rear turn signal options
Post by TheSavagePJ on 05/01/13 at 18:40:17

I did a site search, but I didn't quite get the answer I was looking for. I feel like this question had to have been asked 1000 times before, but I need to ask anyway.

My junky stock rear turn signals, that seem to have the habit of spinning around in their mounts, lost the amber lens off the left during my last ride. That means I can't ride in my area that seems to be infested with law enforcement.

I just need to know if there are any options other than the stock junk that would be a direct fit, or just some minor tinkering. Since my Savage is my only bike, I want to fix this quick so I can get back out there.

I don't think you have stock lights, PJ...
The stockers can't spin around... They can break off, or fall off,.. but, they can't spin around...
:-?...

Can I see a pic?...

Here's what Im looking at, took the screw out, got a rubber washer with a standard lock washer. Both can spin 360 degrees. I knew they weren't in there right, but I assumed it was because the rubber seal was worn.

I was looking at some of the ebay options and just... ugh. Wouldn't be surprised if that's where these flimsy ones came from. They feel like the same kind of plastic they use to make those acorns you got your mystery slime in from those vending machines.

Ahhhh,.. those are mounted in a totally boogeredly fashion...

They're supposed to mount into the chrome fender struts, that aren't on your bike...
You need some aftermarket signals with threaded shafts and nuts...
Like these... see the shaft with a nut?... (Stock lights won't work without the stock strut mounting holes)...

Search e-bay for some you like...

Yeah, I'll find something that I can be okay with. The more I get into this bike, the more I'm realizing whoever had it before me liked his cob-jobs. (steel wool in muffler, missing chrome fender struts, condom in the tool bag. Yes. Really.) I'm afraid to see whats next...

Do the fender struts serve a purpose aside from looks? The fender does vibrate a lot, I just figured it was because I ride a low-end Suzuki cruiser? Thanks for the help, Serowbot, now its off to ebay for me.

This is a low-end cruiser,.. but that rear fender isn't low end... it's very sturdy as fenders go...
A lot of more expensive bikes have cheap plastic fenders,.. the Savage has sturdy, solid steel fenders, front and rear...
The struts do add some stability, mostly for carrying passengers...

PJ,.. yer' workin' out the bugs, and learnin' all about yer' bike...
Cool!... ;)...

So I found these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Bullet-Mini-Turn-Signal-for-Suzuki-Intruder-Volusia-Boulevard-C50-C90-M90-/380634221337?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ASuzuki|Model%3ASavage&hash=item589f914b19&vxp=mtr

I like the bullet style, looks to be what I need (stem with a 10mm threaded shaft) though the little disclaimer says not DOT approved... what the hell is the difference, and how would they know, so long as they light up bright enough?

Title: Re: Rear turn signal options
Post by Serowbot on 05/01/13 at 19:47:13

Well, they won't be very bright... I had some...
...but, they will fit...
They are dual filament, so you'll only connect the brighter filament, for rear lights...(running lights that are yellow, are usually illegal on the rear)...

If you want bright,... go bigger... ;)...

..(I don't even have signals anymore, I just hand sign like crazy)... ;D...

So I settled for these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHROME-BILLET-REAR-TURN-SIGNALS-for-Suzuki-Cruisers-/390588902845?&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&maxbid=14.95&autorefresh=true

Not bad, hopefully they'll be bright enough.

Those look real nice... not plastic either!... ;)...

I had a set of amber ones for the front, they're ok.
but I didn't like they use a compact light bulb rather than the standard.

Let us know how you like them, been thinking of getting a set of red for the rear.

I have some huge, red, Road King, signals on mine, but they're rigged as stop/tail lights, instead of signals...
They take 1157 bulbs, and are very bright...
Not shaft and nut mount though...
2 threaded bolts each...

Dude was it unused, or was your bike possibly chistened!?   :o

Oh and the lights you chose are cool looking  ;)

Here's an update of my bike with my new turn signals. Solid as a rock, slim and looks so much better. Definitely an "ahhh" feeling after putting them on.

They look nice and clean PJ   :)

Holy Crap... those look kewl! matches the tail light and the squareness of the rear....

I agree, they look a whole lot better than the round bulbous ones I had before. My biggest problem now is going to be finding front turn signals that match...

Unrelated to any of this, looking at that pic, I realize how much hate the new NYS blue and gold plates... blegh. I miss the lady liberty ones of the 90s.

Worrying about what color my license plate is will never make it to my top 10 list. 8-)

I really cannot argue with that, Apache. Just more of a casual observation, if anything  ;D

Color doesn't bother me.  But I was a bit bothered when I lived in Ohio and the plates numbers in our area began with VD! (The 1970's equivalent of STD).

If it bothers you that much just get personalized plates, NY has a large offering  ;)

And if you lived in Tennessee you would not have to park your bike while waiting on turn signals as they are not required here. 8-)

That's because they took so much of our Liberty away that there's really no sense in keeping that symbol on our plates.

I sympathize with the uggo-plate...
Looks like a phonebook hanging back there... http://suzukisavage.com/yabb2.2/Templates/Forum/default/sad.gif...

Lights look good though... ;)...
