Title: Fried ignitor/cdi unit?
Post by s40fan on 04/29/13 at 20:18:18

Trying to determine if my ignitor got fried and looking for a sanity check.

I was swapping out the stock battery for lithium. Things were going well till I turned the ingition to on. The main fuse blew. I thought it a fluke and put in a new fuse. Pop. After a lot of troubleshooting I finally went with the turn signal in the fuse technique and ended up disconnecting literally everything except the ignitor, battery, and ignition. When I plug the ignitor in the turn signal turns on bright. Interestingly enough I had the bike in neutral and when the ignitor is disconnected the neutral led comes on and the turn signal is off. Ignitor plugged in, neutral light goes off and turn signal is on.

So, just looking for a second opinion that my ignitor is/is not  toast before I buy a new one.

thanks

toast, but don't really have enough info.

before you plug in the new one, figure out what you screwed up or you'll have another order of toast.

Make sure you connected the new battery with proper polarity. Solid-state electronics like ignition boxes and voltage regulators generally do not like reverse polarity.
