Title: hiss exhaust valves Post by wambr on 04/25/13 at 11:43:02 the situation is this: when travelling began to feel that the dynamics of the bike became less.. unscrewed the cylinder head, took valves examine them saw that there were no signs onto the saddle that is the cause . I decided to lapped valves to their saddles . and here's the result: to check the tightness of the valve poured kerosene in the socket, waited as recommends that instructions about 5 minutes.... traces of course of no everything seems to be OK, but when installed the cylinder head in place and decided to turn the crankshaft with valves closed heard the hiss in the exhaust tract . prompt please, dear experts-is that OK? or maybe it's worth once again lapped valves to their saddles? |

Title: Re: hiss exhaust valves Post by Dave on 04/25/13 at 11:59:09 Only thing I think could could cause this is the valve clearance with the rockers is too tight - or the decompression lever is holding the valves open a bit. |

Title: Re: hiss exhaust valves Post by Dave on 04/25/13 at 12:14:20 If the valve is not seating without the rockers and cam installed....then either the valve face and seat are not round and true - or the valve stem is sticking on something and not letting the spring pressure pull the valve down on the seat. Do you have a machine shop or mechanic with the tools to grind the valves and seats? |

Title: Re: hiss exhaust valves Post by wambr on 04/25/13 at 12:23:34 so this is not very good?sorry... :( I'll try to apply in the mechanical workshop...in one of them works my friend . as something not quite usually happens: like a bevel on the valve in the norm, and the trace on the valve seat, too, there's no fuel leaks, but the valve a little hissing... thank you Dave for a speedy and good answer . I will continue to repair. |

Title: Re: hiss exhaust valves Post by Dave on 04/25/13 at 12:51:22 The only other thing I can suggest is to get some "bluing", It is a die that you can apply to the valve face, and then install the valve and see if the bluing transfers over to the valve seat. If there are gaps in the blue - it indicates a low spot. |

Title: Re: hiss exhaust valves Post by SALB on 04/25/13 at 13:13:46 This may seem silly, but is it possible the hiss you are hearing is the compression escaping as the exhaust opens and the piston pushes all the volume out? I'd be curious as to the results of a compression test. :-/ |

Title: Re: hiss exhaust valves Post by Oldfeller on 04/25/13 at 18:26:03 +1 on air leaking past the ring gaps -- it has to go around and back twice but it would hiss doing it. Some heavy oil would shut down the ring leakage completely and remove its ability to hiss. |

Sometimes the language barrier makes it tough. (Still kind of chuckling about the musicians valve not being installed). |
