Title: 230 main jet?
Post by maxximus on 04/19/13 at 14:39:40

Took carb apart to install new jets cause I'm running straight pipe and found out main jet is #230 and pilot is#52.5.   The new ones are main jet#155 and pilot#52.5.  My question is which jet will you'll recommend better  #155or#230 . Boug

Now every time I let go the throttle on 3 4 gear it starts spurting  this is with the #155 jet.  And no it wasn't smoking at all with the #230. Now I'm confused. Dont know how to go about it  :'(

Is the #230 jet a "Mikuni" jet ?  Or is it from a Dynojet kit ?
Dynojet has a different numbering system for their jets.

What is the difference from a mikuni jet and a dyno jet on the #s??

Thanks for the chart!!  But I didn't see #230 main jet on this chart!!  Also why did my bike had that jet and the adjustment was intact? ? Was that from factory? My bike is a 97 with 12k miles. Right now is running with this set up main jet #155 and pilot jet 52.5

Mikuni makes a 230 large round jet that will fit the BS40 carb but I don't see the bike even running with a jet that large.

I know this is an old thread, but I had the same situation.

Not too sure whats up with that, but I'm planning on replacing it.

DynoJet jets are marked according to the diameter of the hole in the jet.
ie: DJ150 = 1.5mm and DJ175 = 1.75mm.

This is not true for Mikuni or most other OEM equivalent jets.
This size Mikuni jet, (N102.221 Super BN), is marked according to its' flow rate.
ie: 150 = a rating of 150 cc of fuel per minute.

Don get me lying. That's what I get for getting my bikes off craigslist. But even if it is, a Dynojet 230 has gotta be at least like 190(something) Mikuni equivalent. WAY too big I think. Ya?

maybe change your pilot to a 55 and leave the 155 main alone

That jet has a hole so big you could throw your hat into it. Jeez, And I thought I had a nasty one...with 180 as the main jet.

One question: Are you sure that your bike has the original / correct carb? That jet looks like it comes out of a snowmobile or some race engine carb. I cannot fathom how your bike could have run without drenching itself.

What kind of straight pipe are you using? Just a free-flow, no baffle thingy?   What kind of air filter?

if your intake has a serious leak a large main jet might allow it to run, look for air vacuum leak, check carb diaphragm/slide

I bought the bike with the baffle cut out of the stock pipe. Just ordered a Dyna muffler and have new jets comming this week  155.5/52.5  Running the stock airbox right now but depending on how it runs with the new jets, I may go to a K&N side mount.  I want to move the battery back a bit.

I should start a build thread I suppose rather than necro this one. But when I was searching for anything on a 230 main jet, this popped up.  Be on the lookout for my own build thread.
