Title: Ryca Project - question about the tank/seat mount
Post by thomasoconnor19 on 04/15/13 at 15:41:20

This is my Ryca bike I have been working on. Instead of using their tank, I have used a Suzuki GT550 tank that fit very easily.

One problem I've ran into is that the tank is a a good inch longer and it doesn't leave me with enough room to get the nuts on the bolts that assemble the tank and seat pan.

Can I drill out the nuts on the frame, and drop the bolt down through the holes instead? Just wondering if this effects the ability of everything being held together?

I also am planning to chop off a bit of the front of the fiberglass seat as well as reshape the upholstery to fit flush with the tank.

I am using the same tank as you - but I lowered and pushed my tank more forward than you have.  It was a lot of work getting the tank to sit lower.

If you are using the RYCA battery box mount - you need to see if you have access to put nuts on the bottom if you decide to put the bolts in from the top.

Here is the link to my build and you can see how I mounted my tank.

Looks good Dave. Last night I realized I could have dropped the front of my tank a little bit more - but I am just going to keep it as is. I plan to notch my swingarm and add a larger rear tire so I think it will level my bike out a little more.

Did you use the GT550 petcock on your Savage? I'm assuming it will work?

I noticed in your build that you had to move your petcock mounts. With the GT550 tank mounted where I put it - the petcock clears my cylinder. Even if I drop the front a ~1/2" or so, it still clears.
