Title: Just Bought 2 New - 2012 & 2013 - Question
Post by Igggy on 04/13/13 at 21:32:34

The owners manual says not to remove the 2 warning stickers, one on the tank and one on the chain guard. The one on the tank is really an eye sore. Any problems taking it off? Any recommendations on the best way to get it off?

I peeled mine off within a month, it had faded to a plain white blob, and i was really unhappy with how low grade 1998 orange paint was with the sticker gone...

If it isn't painted in (some are, some are not), lift the corner with a razor blade, x-acto tip, plastic scraper, fingernail, etc. The glue residue will come off with Ronson lighter fluid, Goof Off, nail polish remover, etc.

The one on the chain guard is just a tire label. You have the same specs on another label, generally the right side of the front down tube as you are sitting on the bike. NOTE--- going off memory. Mine was de-stickered in March 1998. Down tube label removed in 2009, head stock label removed in 2011 or 2012 (the vin is  frame stamped, label is unnecessary).

2007 S40 I used a hair dryer to heat them up, peeled them as much by hand as I could then used a plastic scraper and finished off with Goo Gone to get the residual glue off.

My bike still hasn't imploded from removing the tank sticker like Suzuki claims will happen   :D

Stickers and Tags should be removed yes Just be careful.  I took mine off and when I recently got pulled over by the Police I received a nice big fat TICKET for NO TAGS.

**** wait that might have been for not having the other tags....ummm and speeding......sorry never mind.

Reading this thread motivated me to try to do something about the sticker on the tank of my 2006. About 15 minutes with my wife's hair dryer and a plastic bondo applicator, followed by some Goo-Gone, a quick wipe with a damp cloth, and a little wax, and you'd never know the sticker was ever there. At least on this particular tank the sticker was applied on top of the clear coat. Since it came off this easy on a 7 year old bike I've gotta think that peeling it off a newer one should be no problem.

Thanks for all the replies. I did pretty much what oldNslow recommended (not as long with the hair dryer) and I am decal free.

I guess I'm no longer a law abiding citizen. I removed the tag from a pillow that says "Do not remove under penalty of law". I'll deny it if one of you turns me in.
