getting a new s40 for my velorex 700 sidecar need some stiffer shock choices any ideas?

You can watch eBay for Progressive shocks.....most shocks that fit a Harley will fit the Savage......you need 1/2" or 13mm eyes.  You probably want to avoid any that are "heavy duty", as those have really stiff springs for riding double on a Harley.

9/16 or 14mm on my bike. Did they change at some point?

That's correct.

Progressives have a bushing that you can change out to fit the metric bikes.

Ooops....I do believe 14mm is correct.
