Title: Swing-arm extenders
Post by LANCER on 04/12/13 at 01:46:05

Has anyone tried the swing-arm extenders from RYCA ?
I just received a set; the metal work looks good; just wondering about the   ease or difficulty in getting them set/aligned & welded.

Lancer.

I did not know they made such a thing.  I just looked at their website and it appears they would be easy to weld on and get them straight.

I am not sure about the accuracy of the index marks for tightening the belt/chain......I supposed you could check the stock index marks for accuracy prior to taking the bike apart - then use the existing marks to help adjust the position of the weld on tabs accordingly.

I am guessing these parts are only valid for a chain drive system....unless ou buy a Kawasaki EN454 belt that is longer than the Suzuki belt.

I am using chain drive, but for setting the wheel alignment I measure from the axle to the swing arm pivot and use the marks just as a backup confirmation.  The marks are not all consistent.

I too didn't know RYCA made these. I wont one as my Savage does feel short and dumpy.
Can anybody else make these for less than $80?

I'd be dressing the outside welds and adding some reinforcing plates... or at least a gusset to each unit. Leave just enough room for the adjuster hardware to clear at fully forward in the slots.

These are well done and made from a substantial hunk of metal.
Have not measured the thickness yet.

These extenders could be the  key to get the same seating position and look like the hard tail bobbers. Moving the wheel back leaves more options for lower shocks. :D

Thickness may be fine, but your important caution is weld penetration. Of course thicker metal wont burn so easy and you can run it at good high heat and get penetration, like wd suggested, grind @ the welds and wiggle and load it, if you see a line of separation, weld it ... repeat, till you dont, then gusset ...

Cool.

Sweet! How will this affect handling?

Negligible, it's only an inch and change difference.
