Post by 45acp on 04/09/13 at 17:21:32

my buddy is getting a shadow spirit 750 this weekend. i already know my savage is better of course. :D i am wondering though if the shadow will be faster on the highway. im riding a 2004 savage. he told me the shadow was a 2008 with fuel injection. just wondering if ill spend all my time eating dust

He's got just a couple of ponies on you...
You might eat some dust,... if he pushes his bike to the limits...
...just let him...
then, he'll get his jolly,.. and that'll be that...
You can beat him off the line up to 60 or 70mph...
...iffin' you need a jolly in return... ;D...

...but, if 2 people are riding together, it's poor sportsmanship to over power another rider...
I rode this weekend with a Triumph Speed Triple... ...but, my friend is not rude...
;)...

I've also ridden with a friend on an 80cc scooter...
If someone wants to ride with you, they have to be considerate of you...

I rode a couple of Spirit 750's.. they're the wimpiest 750 I've ever seen..
Nuttin' wrong with that,.. they just aren't meant to go fast...
I kept bouncing off the rev limiter, just trying to make it accelerate as fast as my bike does normally...

this should be biker law, even more so than "the wave"

I can not say anything about big brother, for I went to the "little ones"-[ch1083][ch1089]400(this is my pet) and shadow 400(this is my friend). I agree with Serowbot-Savage will be much more active at the initial stage, and the Shadow of a little faster after 70 miles per hour...and again-on a common way to anything measures who is faster-it's not sportbikes

thanks for the responses guys. we dont plan on any races. i just wanted to know for grinsies. i kept tryin to talk him into a savage, but for some reason he just wasnt interested. i guess some people dont want to have a rugged simple to work on machine :)
i tried to tell him the power to weight ratio makes a big difference, but you just cant argue with some people.

Some of us, want a pretend Harley...
...and some of us, want a pretend Gold Star...

... and a very select few of us,... want to be broke down on the side of the road with the genuine article...

It's all good...
We're all ridin'... most of the time...
:)...

PS... on Monday... Me, and Jim, and George, went for a short putt... to the Roadrunner cafe'...
While we were sipping our coffee's,... a gent in a pick-up asked...
"What is that bike in the middle?,.. a BSA, or a Triumph?"...
I told him it was a Suzuki....
What I didn't mention... was that the bike in front of it was a Triumph... a 675 Speed Triple...
That always makes my day...
When someone recognizes my bike as a Triumph...
;D...

In the 60's,... our bike would be a barn burner...
The barns didn't change...
Ego's did...
90% of riders,.. can't really use the power a Savage makes...
I can't... but with a Savage,... I can try...
With hundred HP rocket,.. it would try me... :-?...

Snerk.  Yeah, he will be able to go faster, as if 85 mph isn't already enough for a speed ticket. He will not be quicker.   In the streets he will be playing catch-up, breathing your dust.

im really just glad to finnally have someone to go riding with. i live way out in the middle of nowhere, so having a buddy with a bike close will be cool.
its also good to know that i can keep up. last time i rode with a guy i was on a honda elsinore mt250. i could barely get up to 60 so i got left alot. ;)
still have the elsinore though. its a good dirt road bike.

Power to weight ratio is a definite factor if you want to compare the LS650 to the VT750(DC or C2?)

Savage = 33HP @ 350lbs = approx. 10lbs per HP

Spirit = 45HP @ 495lbs = 11lbs per HP

Pretty much an even match.

Don't know the torque figures, but am guessing that the LS might have slightly more torque off the line?

Spirit will have a better top end and Savage will likely handle better, especially at lower speeds on account of being lighter.

Gear ratio differences between the two Bikes will be a determining factor in off-the-line and top end performance as well ...

Both Bikes are probably an even match in the grins per mile ratio!

Here's a pic of the VT I picked up this past weekend!

I had every intention of buying a Shadow after my trainer, a Rebel, but one ride on the Thumper and she stole my heart. Now if I was doing freeway/interstate commuting, things might be different, but for my twisting through the trees, this gal is perfect!  Enjoy your new ride....

Thanks! The LS650 will always have a permanent place in my heart ... I've owned two of them over the years! The recently acquired VT750 came about because of deal too good to pass up ... been Riding a Kawasaki EX250-H the past couple years and fun Bike that it is, it was time for a change ...

We'll see how agreeable the VT is compared to my past experiences with the Savage/S40s I've owned ...

When you get bored, bring it down here. Whole new world to explore, different stinks to experience, bugs big enough to crack windshields, pavement joints to get high centered on...

Nice looking Shadow there Perry. Chain or shaft driven? Hard to guess since the 750 was offered in both...

Totally up to you. If Versy and Oldfeller ever decide on the dates... there will be invites going out to Do the Ton's Dirty South section, a Sweptline (1961-71) Dodge board and a 33-59 (flathead era) Chysler products forum as well. Maybe a few semi-local gun friends as well... one of whom has a blasting license...

If a date isn't nailed down... I'm here everyday, I both live and work on the farm.

Party at my farm. That happens to have a private "lake" (2 acre stocked pond), primitive shooting range, horse shoe pit, picnic and primitive camping areas... full traditional blacksmith shop, gas and electric welders, upholstery grade sewing machine...

Lots of cheaper motels within a few miles. Camping here can be dangerous, we do have venomous snakes, snapping turtles, venomous spiders, a resident feral hog herd (hunting open year round)... oh, and deer season will be open, the farm is in a 3 doe per day unit...

Broken Arrow OK to Rosemark TN in under 12 hours, towing a horse trailer, in winter. With one of my antique trucks that w/o the trailer can't get out of its own way... I believe we left broken Arrow at 8 and we were at the house in the afternoon or very early evening, still full daylight.

Find Memphis in your atlas. Follow HWY 14 to the Tipton County/Shelby County line. You'll see there is a box shaped jump of Shelby into Tipton county. The left side line is our place.

It isn't all that far.

I would absolutely love to Ride down your way sometime WD! That'd be fun for sure! My '06 Spirit is a "DC" chain-drive ... in '07 Honda offered both the DC and the new shaft-driven C2 model ... '08, no more DC, only C2 ... they came out with the RS (Roadster) version in 2010 ... that's what I really would've loved to have gotten my mitts on! :)
