Title: Setting up the shocks??
Post by B.J. or Jo on 04/08/13 at 06:24:18

Ok, you can laugh at my expense, I can take it! ;)  This is the first bike I've ever owned were you, "Can't See the adjustment settings on the Shock"!! :-?  Is it 1-5 Left to Right and is it the SAME on both Left and Right side??  Thanks, it's hell being "Dumber than a box of Rocks" but I've been told the only dumb question is the one that didn't get asked, hope that's true!  :-[

They should be the same. One adjuster hole faces the front, one the rear.

Lay down where you can look into the base trim, you'll see the tension notches.

My stock shocks got set on 5 and left alone. But I'm a lot heavier than you, so set it on 3 or 4, should be fine for solo or two up use.

WD, so the holes won't be in the same place, even if their adjusted to the "same setting"?? I'll try the laying down to view today, my close up eye sight ain't the best.  BTW, I weigh 230, the wife 130 and we do ride "double up" at times, thanks, it's very appreciated! :)

They are the same shock side to side, at least the ones on my 98 were. They get adjusted by turning them the same direction. Once you get  it set where you like it, the one with the hole facing forward can be removed and flipped 180 on the mounts so both holes are to the rear.

2 up at 360 pounds... not bad. Add another 120ish on our end doubled up on the baby bike...

Just look up under the shock at the stepped ramp. YOu want the one thats got the spring crushed all the way or the one next to it,.

Thanks guys!! I readjusted them before leaving for a 130 mile Poker Run, double up and from what you've said, I've got them both on 5 I'll probably bring it down to 4 and see if it can handle "the both of us" without bottoming out, again thanks! :)
