Title: Barnett heavy Duty Clutch questions
Post by Super Thumper on 04/04/13 at 21:13:52

Has anyone installed a Barnett Heavy Duty clutch on a Savage?  Want to know it is ok to re-use the OEM steel separator plates while using the new Kevlar friction plates and the 4 heavy duty spprings??

Why not?  steel is steel, clean them up, and if they measure in spec... go go go.

You might want to lightly scuff the plates with some fine sandpaper if they are all polished shiny.  When the metal plates get all polished up they make it harder to release the clutch - the "stiction" is caused by the surfaced being so smooth that they don't allow air to break the oil's surface tension and the plates stick together tightly.  This probably won't be a problem for you as the fiber plates are new and not yet polished.

Hopefully the new springs are not horribly stiff - the little metal clutch release arm on the end of the release shaft inside the case is the weak link in the clutch lever system.  The small piece that fits on the shaft breaks if too heavy of springs are used.

Sounds like I will try the OEM Suzuki metal seperator disks scuffed up with #400 sandpaper. Thanks for the info folks.
